Your Favourite Class/Spec for PvP?

Hello there, I'm brand-new to Guild Wars and research indicates that my choice of weapons are what you would call 'garbage' in both PvP and PvE, yet I love it all the same and wouldn't want to change it for anything. How about you? Are you living the meta or rocking something custom that others turn their noses up at?

For me it's Axe-Axe + Rifle Warrior. Yes, I can already hear you groaning but I just love the simplistic style, the satisfying 'thunk thunk thunk' of bullets and, well, I suppose spin-to-win is pretty standard stuff in MMORPGs. Meanwhile, I can't fart without a P-P Thief, Deadye Thief or that AoE Necro thingy running at me with extreme prejudice. Are you one of those, or doing your own thing?

Don't know if I have a favorite. I have several that I like though.

Core sword dagger thiefGS/LB DruidCore burn guardianDagger dagger/rifle spellbreakerStaff tempestScepter dagger tempestStaff daredevilSword axe heraldGS reaperRifle holosmith

A lot of those aren't optimal. Some are pretty good. All are fun. Ugh listed too many. If I had to pick one then maybe core sword dagger thief.

Interesting choices, peeps. On my quest to find an alt I like, I've taken a liking to the Engi-Rifle (probably because the ability list is very similar to War-Rifle, except the T skill). Not keen on having a wealth of extra buttons to press (hello Elixirs/Turrets etc), but so far it's been pretty fun.

You can easily just play a Elixir Engineer and not worry about using kits... I've used to run a full bar of drugs even before Strenght Runes were meta (Way back in 2013) and it was relatively effective... Today, I still run 3/5 Elixirs (With E-gun and Prime Light Beam being the other 2 slots) and still work very well. No, you problably won't beat your average Meta Scourge or Spellbreaker, but you'll surely put some hurt as lots of people do not expect a non meta build.

Yeah, there is far too much boon hate (especially conversion, ugh) to rely that heavily on boons without serious issues. If scourge didn't require either range or insane DPS to tackle, scrapper would probably be the ideal choice since much of their defensive utility is not in boon form. As it is, though, staying in melee range for that long is a problem.

As for the OP, let's see:I ran marauder lb/gs druid back in the bunker meta, and it was glorious (knockback, lockdown, and I had stealth on both weapons)Scrapper is always fun; I use the hammer, of courseRifle holosmith is a lot of funDragonhunter with longbowChronomancer with staff/sw+sh

Engineer seems to be the closest I'll get to what I have, just with lots of extra buttons. I'll probably give it a go seeing as I've tried almost everything else and simply don't enjoy them as much.

zerker p/p deadshot.

Until they dodge your unload, time stuns/gap-closers appropriately and melt you in a wombo. At least that's what happens when I meet most P/P's  I can see the appeal, though. It's what I'd probably play if I levelled a Thief. I wager this is up your alley:

Playing a vanilla Axe/Shield power warrior. It's loads of fun and feels pretty beefy.

It's got good burst damage, high sustain and condition cleansing, good utility, solid HP and toughness, and nice shield stuns on a 16 second timer. What more could you ask for? ...man, being a warrior is sweet.

I have an axe-shield in the bank - I considered using that as a sub for my Axe-Axe purely for more duel potential, but I feel like I miss an arm whenever I remove the rifle - having the ranged option, extra dodge, the slow/weakness and the knockback is so nice against some things, especially when fighting on objectives -- but of course, having a shield is nice against other things and for STAYING on that objective.

I'll probably give it a bash at some point. I recall Shield/Axe + Longbow being popular back in the old days - I really don't like the Longbow, though.

I play core guardian with sword/shield and scepter/focus. There are no hard counters for it and it works against everything. I use three CC breaks and 2 stability skills. I can remove condis easy. VoR removes 5 condi. Heal 2. Smite 2. Contemplation of Purity removes all condis. And all of the CC breaks, stability and condi remove are none cast, so I can use them while CCed. The build weakness is its slow, and will lose if out sustained. Once you burn you CDs, you are kinda toast.

I still have issues against major condi nuking (but so does everyone). It does well against SBs and necro, so that is a plus.

we are probably the only two people who played it... cele bombs was absolute godmode tho

Great minds think alike

bomb kit, Egun & throw mine B)

the boon rip + huge amount of cc meant i could ping pong anyone. the sustain from bombs & cele made teamfights a dream. always on the node with the AOEs blasting fields. heck, im feeling so much nostalgia- if only we could go back to pre specialisations update :'(

placing your whole mine field at your feet to have a thief steal to you & get insta cc’d & lose half their health is something i miss so much
