Lucio.4190 Posted December 25, 2020 Posted December 25, 2020 Has anyone tried using an instrument, such as a midi keyboard to use it as an additional control?Seen people having instruments in game and I thought how much easier that would be to play with a real keyboard or instrument connected to the computer. But has anyone tried it?
Veprovina.4876 Posted December 25, 2020 Posted December 25, 2020 Of course you can.Just from one google search i found this.https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/2qcz3e/is_it_possible_to_bind_my_keys_to_a_midi_keyboard/https://www.bome.com/products/mtclassichttp://www.charlie-roberts.com/midiStroke/Bind keyboard strokes to midi notes. This however, probably goes against ToS about macros so... Up to you really.
Lucio.4190 Posted December 25, 2020 Author Posted December 25, 2020 Thanks! I'll have a look at that. Would be a lot easier to play something nice with a real music instrument connected.Wonder if ANet could release an addon package that finds the music instrument as an additional game controller and allows it for playing music?Would be cool to allow some music artists giving us a show in the game. ?
Veprovina.4876 Posted December 25, 2020 Posted December 25, 2020 Would be cool yeah. But that would require the game to recognize MIDI input natively, and not many stuff does that outside of DAWs and specialized software.I mean. Coding something like this for a novelty item in gaame is probably and overkill. But would definitely be cool to just plug your MIDI keyboard and do an in game concert lol. Read this before you do anything though so you don't get banned or something for using "macros" or whatever. Because there's a chance the MIDI to keystroke software would be treated as such by the game. And i don't know if there are any automated systems that detect macros... So just be careful.https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/discussion/65547/policy-third-party-programs#latesthttps://en-forum.guildwars2.com/discussion/65554/policy-macros-and-macro-use#latestAccording to what's posted, it should be safe to use it, after all, you're not gaining advantage or anything. But read it none the less.
Lucio.4190 Posted December 25, 2020 Author Posted December 25, 2020 Oh, of course! Thanks, I'll do that.Thank you very much for your help, much appreciated.I'll have to wait for a couple of months before being able to try it, though.. if it's allowed of course. No computer now.. did I say I miss my Mesmer?
Veprovina.4876 Posted December 25, 2020 Posted December 25, 2020 You're welcome! :smile:Good luck and hopefully you get your computer soon.
Danikat.8537 Posted December 25, 2020 Posted December 25, 2020 The rules against macro use shouldn't be an issue here. The short version is rebinding controls is ok as long as it's 1 key press = 1 action. So if you press 1 key on your keyboard and it triggers one skill that's ok, the problem is if it triggers several skills in a row.Players who use mice with extra buttons, keypads and other special controls have to re-bind the controls to use them and that's allowed, it's just a problem if you're automating the game play.

Even playing the instruments could get me banned for cheating, if I bind the whole song to a specific key, another song to another key... sounds fair. ?Thanks for the info!Knowing that it's possible and also permitted made me really glad.

It's not permitted, using macros for music is an exception from the "1 key = one action"-rule:https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/discussion/65554/policy-macros-and-macro-use#latest
