Will EoD open the windows or close the door?

Recommended Posts

I feel there is a lot of pressure on this next expansion. I'm not sure how these Devs plotted things out, but this could either lead GW2 to fly to new heights or could tank the whole game. Especially after have the second expansion that seem to do well with introducing something to the game that most players least expected. Mounts! It kinda wished they introduce mounts with EoD, just so that we would be disappointed if the dev can't top them.

I truely can't imagine anything ANet could do that could top mounts in this game. A new race would be nice. Same with player housing or side-kick system. But none comes close to mounts. They made mount like no other. How do they top that?

EoD also has the issue of creating a new Elite Specializations. Some professions got what many players were hoping for, while others were nice, but not on anyone's wish list or radar. Will EoD finally fulfill many players dreams, allowing their profession to have the weapons, utilities, or mechanics that've yearn for?

If EoD miss the mark, falling short of what PoF did, would players return and bring a friend, or will they turn off the lights for good?

GW2 is something people can come into. The door is installing the game (again) and start playing. It is not Arenanet who closes the door (uninstalling) or opens it (installing).

People come and leave in any game. People tend to think that cause many people they knew, have left, the game is dead.

I have people in my friendslist who haven't played since 2012.This does not mean that the game is dead.Obviously the next expansion should bring people back and attract new players. To be succesfull it shoud do more then adding zones and story. People expect new elite specialisations and a new feature simular to mounts. That is what the mark is. Just keep an open mind. It is very likely not what you expect from it.

tl;drThe game is fine, sit back, relax and enjoy the show. Do not join the hype train.

This is a great summary. Too often, every MMO screeches that the game is dying, the game is dying. No, players have life changes, find another game that peaks their interest, etc. I find many players in GW2 particularly have a very clear vision for what they want the game to be, what their imagination wants it to be, and often it's not what the game actually is. Instead of enjoying the game (perceived flaws and all...hey it's still no sub, yay!) they dwell on what should have been or could have been in their opinion. Each person knows when it is time to leave a game, and some stay too long. For now, why not introduce a friend to it? You don't have to play it religiously.

So enjoy the game, the expansion, don't worry about what changes may occur. Be happy for the moment and the time well spent in Tyria (and Cantha).

I guess we all can sit back, but to be honest, this game isn't hitting like we think it should. Some fears are real. With all the hiccups, what's keeping this game going is the fantastic animations, fantasy theme, and the possiblities of this game.

The bad things about this game was the initial direction of the game with its Living World. For them to create content that new player could not have access to was a poor choice. The other being the lack of lore. Introducing mounts and elite specializations with no lore behind them, ruins the world building. Another issues I have is the story. There some strong inconsistencies in this game, that could easily have been avoided.

With the number of keybindings mounts have given me, I hope they come up with something that doesn't use up my keyboard.

Maybe they could give us glider-friendly skills again? Make them non-overpowered Bloodstone Fen abilities that are themed after classes? Maybe make them active whenever people are falling for 2 seconds or so that non-glider people can use them? People could then go from rooftop to rooftop in Cantha, jumping upon enemies from above.

I understand where you are coming from. But what exactly has POF done for GW2?Mounts are great, but I personally don't think EOD will be that much different now.It will attract and scare peopleaway like like HOT and POF did.I think most people have way too high expectations, but I can't tell if that mindset existed also with HOT and/or POF. I was looking forward to POF after HOT because I was fully into the game and still had a lot to do and discover. HOT flashed me because I loved the maps and raids.EOD I let myself come too, as a person who was extremely disappointed by POF and the LS and probably because of that didn't really enjoy the game for very long, no matter how hard I tried.

In short, for some it will ... open something, for others close.

Who is this "We"you are talking about? I take it that you mean yourself and try to project your opinion on others? What hiccups?

I loved the initial living world and think it was one of the better ways of story telling. I understand the critique about it being temporary, but the moment the kraka queen destroyed the light house in LA was awesome.

As for lack of lore. I think this statement is overrated. GW2 has a decent amount of lore. Not as extended as the elder scrolls, but it is very decent. Both mounts and elite specialisations are set in lore behind them. If you go to Amoon oasis, you have an npc inviting you to choose an elite now you are in the desert and explains the lore behind them. The same goes for all the mounts.

Only time will tell, I really hope the trash Champions episodes we're getting are due to Anet choosing to spend most Dev's resources into new exp, I'm forcing myself to believe this. One thing is certain, new exp is their last chance to revamp GW2, if it's a fail, GW2 will fail as well and for good this time.

The only correct answer is:Nobody knows.

We literally know nothing of this expansion, except that it's playing in Cantha. We don't know how we get there. We don't know what the title is referring toWe don't know what kind of elite specializations we will get.etc.

I'm curious to see how it goes. Aren't they also going to release on Steam as well? That's a big potential audience. I assume the expansion will have some hook aimed at the wider steam audience.

The steam release is put on hold indefinitely for now.

IIRC ArenaNet has stated that the name of the expansion does not mean it is the last expansion or end of the line for GW2, but there's no way of knowing how accurate that really is without a roadmap for the future of this game.

The GW2 and GW1 universe revolves around the planet Tyria and the sentient beings on it. GW1 had nothing to do with the dragon's except for the only expansion and final big release Eye of the North which functioned as a bridge to the GW2 story.

There are plenty of stories to be explored in the future. Specially cause the union between the 5 sentient races exist cause of the dragons. The next story could easily be about a civil war. But there are so many more options.

I doubt that would be civil war, that would dissolve players into factions and I cant see anet doing that. The big threat has always been the dragons, they manipulate the races and the environment. What else holds such power that is vast enough to cause the entire world to fight against it?

I doubt that in a civil war the PC would be dissolved into factions. Tyria always had guilds as the base of society. The PC is member of a unique guild. The second one so far that has members of all races (the first was destiny's edge). Dragon's only have been a treat in GW2, but in the lore from GW1 it was not a thing for the first three campaigns.
