Why is there no 1v1 PvP mode in this game? Is something wrong with me?

To have viable 1v1 builds available on every class, you have to design the game a certain way. GW2 was absolutely not designed this way, PvP was viewed as interaction of opposing teams. Both game design and later balancing efforts aimed to make 5v5 the enjoyable, balanced experience.Teamfighting requires you to specialise into a role. Every class is better at different roles, for example a thief will never facetank the enemy damage in a teamfight, but it can outrun everything. This level of specialisation means some classes have the tools to 1v1, while others lack some of it, and a few unlucky ones cannot 1v1 at all.

1v1 in general is very basic and entry level PvP. This game aimed to be the new ESL hit(yeah i know, it sounds funny 8 years later, but they did start out with the intention), and serious&competetive PvP games usually revolve around competeing teams, so thats the enviroment the devs wanted to create with this game aswell.

He asked for reasons. So he does. I'm glad to know you don't.

One gripe with Guild halls Arena I've always had was that it uses PVE versions of things like Retaliation and confusion instead of WvW version.

we tried 1v1 in guild arena, my 1shot core mesmer did over 50k damage in a combo from stealth.my friends reaper did over 8k dmg with 1 tick of his down-state basic attack.shit is unbalanced yo

if they add a damage field on a timer like in 2v2/3v3, you'd see the same AOE spam meta as in our current gamemodes

add perma reveal after a certain duration :) easy :)

To have viable 1v1 builds available on every class, you have to design the game a certain way.You absolutely don't. 2v2 and 3v3, which are already in the game, aren't perfectly balanced with every class having a meta spot, yet this doesn't stop many from enjoying those gamemodes. So this is in fact not relevant.GW2 was absolutely not designed this way, PvP was viewed as interaction of opposing teams. "1v1 in general is very basic and entry level PvP" now this is just objectively incorrect and it is disappointing that some people chose to upvote a comment that contains statements like these.

Why this statement is wrong? To get good at the game, start to practise 1v1s is arguably the most effective way...

If you want 1v1 ,just go into WvW and tell me how long your brain lasted playing duel with "shadow arts cool squishy ninjas who cant die".

Btw, theres more.Almost every other class has a stupid duelist build. Theres a reason why the community chosen 1v1 format in private servers, WAS ZERKER/0 TOUGHNESS ONLY .... AND THATS IN 2013 !!! thats before all the powercreep !!

Also, gw2 combat = conquestWithout the small circle to stand in, gw2s melee combat just fals apart. The walk speed is horribly slow, perma swift is must, even then its meh AND theres A LOT of cripple... poeple would just kite and never die

So in short, dont even think about it.If you want 1v1s, just play a duelist and push far.

Lmao no. Thief would be one of the 2 or 3 classes you would never see played at the top. Without being able to run away, thief cant do anything but lose.
