Unhappy with ranger

I main ranger and have since Guild Wars 2 launched, last 2 years i have become more and more unhappy since it seam that all other classes is slowly geting better but ranger have had a long list off smal nerfs that combined have made ranger way less powerfull.

He is my favorite but going to retire him for now, as anything else i can play outshines him by a mile.

 

This is from solo roaming perspective  in wvw, in pvp it feels a little better and pve i dont have the understanding to know anything about  :/

Me too. I used to play ranger (psb, csb and dudu) in all end game areas (raids, strikes, fractals, wvw, pvp) and also got the legendary armor for my ranger etc. and now I can’t really play in any of those areas properly anymore. 😞

Yeah, ranger barely got any new toys to play with. There is nothing fresh. No, just putting melee range daze in Warhorn doesn't make it a ''new'' toy.

 

All new utilities skills we received from the elite specs are simple and boring. Glyphes ? Not even used. Stances ? Just buffs.

We still use core weapons to stay relevant in the meta. You can use Sword instead or MH Dagger or Axe for a slight dps decrease.

All our off hands are underpowered and lack of identity.

 

Meanwhile, they changed Guardian's torch, focus, staff and now longbow #5. Just play the blue class, man.

Just had a soulbeast run rings around me in stealth, and knockdowns, and one wolf rapid fire, then switch to gsword for 7k hits on a 3k armor scourge, I would needed an entire bar of stun breakers and aoes to beat that. Ain't nothing wrong with it solo roaming, it's borderline broken with all the tools they have available for it, including immobilize builds or boonbeast builds which are hard to kill. The only thing they are missing are good ground aoes (besides the one that doesn't even require los) and frankly I'm glad they don't even have those to deal with.

 

Grass might not be looking green to you here, but it's worse in other yards, cept guard and eng... /shrug

Those numbers seem a bit off. 

 

I have to agree with OP ranger is not in a good place from a WvW perspective. Although the ranger didn't get any direct nerfs that is a consecuence of the direct buffs done to other classses.

Well you probably shouldn't have been playing ranger in WvW anyway. In PvP it has much of the same weaknesses but because people can't go full tank with minstrel or trailblazer gear you are more likely to be able to outsustain (Wilderness Survival traitline mainly) , out rotate, or burst them (Sic Em type builds). Ranger still lacks boon rip so any build with heavy amounts of defensive boons can be a problem (aegis, protection, stability, magnetic aura if you run mainhand axe , shortbow, or longbow).
 

While soulbeast should probably have One Wolf Pack cooldown restored in PvE , it's more that we have powercreep on other classes.
For 10 man instanced PvE druid still has a solid spot though.

Lol what server do you play on?? Was it HoD Or CD BL north camp by any chance?

To stay on topic, yea, i really wish ranger could finally get some darn boon rip. Soulbeast has too much stab. NM has too many boons. Give me boon rip so i can strip them. The unskilled rangers are getting carried by boons. But in higher tier gameplay engi and thief still kittens ranger up easily.  
 

and for the record, I’m gonna go out on a limb here and assume that I was the one hitting those dmg numbers on the scourge. But I play BM - skirmish - soulbeast. I have 0 condi cleanse other than sigils. It’s honestly not very good, but it hits hard as KITTEN. that’s just my playstyle. I’d rather play something worse than boon kitten. Which brings me to another point..

 

 I hate how ranger has to utilize a bunch of boons to stay competitive compared to holo or scrapper. And even with all the boons it’s not quite enough. Scrapper and holo still outshines ranger easily. I’m considering starting to main holo because they have so many more tools (lol) and options whereas ranger you gotta pick either glass cannon but it sucks, or boon kitten with mediocre damage.

Do you even play Guardian? Dragonhunter longbow performs much worse than Ranger Soulbeast and this has been going on since release.

Tbh i am not pissed about the nerfs but rather the lack of compensation and the neglection of certain ranger functionalities and long term bugs.

 

1. The pet: critical chance is still not calculated fairly among pet families. Porcine crit less often with 1000 precision than a feline does etc. They should adress that finally. A complete pet overhaul is long overdue. A proper rebalancing of allmpet skill is necessary and a wardrobe system as suggested already on this forums would also be welcome.

 

2. Weaponskills that interact with the pet. Give them a classification and let us enhance them with traits. This would deepen buildcraft and give us more options to experiment.

 

3. Give us back throwable traps and let us use spirits similar to spirit weapons. Rangers lack proper AoE and having a ammo based AoE damage tool that buffs allies would be great for WvW players and also for oPvE meta events.

 

4. Diversify druid. Druid is a one dimensional buff bot with the occasional root mechanic in competitive modes. Diversify the CAF and give us branching options that focus more on specific roles. Otherwise the CAF is absolutely essential or basically useless depending on build.

 

5. Improve torch offhand, Longbow, shortbow and axe offhand.

Give us ammo for under utilized/boring skills like throw torch, hunters shot and quickshot. Make poison volley like rapid fire, give us piercing baseline for LB 1+2 and sb 1+2. Make axe 5 mobile.

 

 

If all those points get adressed, i will be the happiest ranger main that ever played this game.

True shot hits for 8-11k on 3k armor.

I mentioned guard and eng because they're "the" meta classes.

Yea. Like I mentioned i play pretty much pure dmg, all traits are dmg based with zerk/assassins mix and scholar runes. I don’t usually play with dolyak stance, but haven’t played since last week so didn’t know what kinda builds i was in for. The other more regular and common builds use WS which has more boons and has cleanse but doesn’t hit as hard.

Bro, the way you play that spec, it feels like borderline hacking. Like I've only met one other ranger play like that about a year ago at ne smc and it was probably you and I figured it was after I beat their warrior I think it was, exact same stealth usage and knockdowns on my mesmer, could do nothing to them even the ccondi build, I couldn't even get my poison field out to block your shots yesterday. But being on a mid range zerg scourge spec I expect to lose that battle, just not that badly.

 

Just stay away from me in the future please, immob druids are bad enough to deal with. 😑

I’d also add make axe 3 a blast finisher seeing how it has a blast radius listed in the skill’s tool tip.

I agree with you 100%. It would help Ranger immensely. I would love #3 to happen.

Tbh I see why they wanted to nerf ranger's burst potential by nerfing sic'em, but I think that the change in one wolf pack was really too much, at least in PvE. At least when they nerfed chrono, they buffed mirage enough that mesmer mains had alternative to want to play. But as a ranger main too (pslb, cslb, druid), I mainly play condi slb, and It's really saddening to see all of the other classes get their condition sides buffed this patch, while we remain as the only condition class that actually gets nerfed, with our power side already getting nerfed as well. As hard as chrono got nerfed, their new benchmarks are still at the pre-patch soulbeast's so now we're just a sad class where necromancers that just auto attack can do equal or more damage than condition soulbeasts who are using more than just autoattacks. 

 

From the perspective of other classes, although their power classes got nerfed, their condition classes got buffed (especially torment using classes), whereas this is really unmotivating to want to keep playing ranger as a class since one wolf pack contributes to a condition slb's sustain damage as well. 

 

Instead of creating more diversity for fractals and raids, I think this ends up encouraging even more purple dps in raids (mirage/miracity now) and just a bit more diversity but people are still motivated to do all guardian comps for fractals lol.
