Error code 58 - I can't log-in

Recommended Posts

Hello guys,

I've been reading through this forum for a few days, all along with searching through the net, for a possible solution to my issue. It's been happening for half a month:

- I can reach the character selection screen.

- Right when I click "Play", error code 58 notification appears, and I lose my internet connection.

Sometimes I can log-in, but not for long.

What I tried:

- Turning-off my Windows firewall, both private, public and domain types.

- Opening TCP port 80, 443, 6112 and 6600.

- Repairing the client.

- Contacting my ISP. They said they don't block anything. We know AWS doesn't allow pinging (and trace-routing) their servers, so I have no idea where the packages lost.

My game client is updated. My OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, version 20H2.

What should I do now? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks, Inculpatus cedo. I've read through error codes list, but it doesn't help much to me. I'm guessing that:
- Some Windows services are blocking my game, or
- My WiFi card is crying for a replacement ^^, or
- My router is blocking the game.

The problem is I don't know which triggers Internet connection loss when I click Play. Everything else is working fine.

Thanks for the reply, Linken, but I'd prefer wifi for the neat of the house :D.

However, I found out the solution. Just change my wifi to 802.11 b/g mode (it was 802.11 b/g/n), then things are fine.

I'd like to make a little summary of quick fixes for error code 58 here, so who would be facing the same problem can make it faster:

- Trace-routing to www.guildwars2.com (Click Windows Start, type in "cmd". It'll open command console. Type in "tracert www.guildwars2.com"). If you find packages loss anywhere on the route (demonstrated by an IP address), that's where the problem arises. If it happens to be your ISP's address, call them to change your connection to world-wide. Please be minded that sometimes ISPs can block international connection to save bandwidth.

- Change your connection mode to 802.11 b/g.

- Temporary disable Windows Firewall, all 3 types or create Firewall In-bound and Out-bound rules allowing Guild Wars 2.

- Temporary uninstall your Anti-Virus software.

- Update: Open your browser, access www.guildwars2.com before log-in the game might help (maybe this helps reduce DNS issues, I don't know, but it works for me)

- Open port 6112, 6600 for both private and public connection (though this is generally not necessary).

- Sometimes, change your DNS service to Google DNS (8.8.8.8 - 8.8.4.4) can help.
