Finding the fun in PvP as an Engineer

The time to tryhard in this game has come and gone. With bots, wintrades, and cheating running rampant, the prestige of high rank just doesn't mean what it once did.

But it doesn't have to be all doom and gloom. The joy in PvP, for me at least, has always been theorycraft. Trying to find OP synergies that others may have missed, creating an off-beat build that might catch people off guard, abuse people's expectations of what a given class is "supposed" to be. Moments like that are still genuinely enjoyable.

And for that purpose I'd like to share a few fun builds and stretegies that I've come up with over the last few months. Will these get you to legendary rank? Probably not, but that's not the goal with any of these.

I'll start with one of my favorite fun builds

Condition Holo

This build has two main goals:

Goal 1: +1 Fights

Goal 2: CC and burst targets down.

I have two varients of this build. One with rocket boots for when I know I'm going to be moving around a lot. E.g. enemy has a thief and we do not.

One with battering ram over rocket boots. This lets me pick one target and lock them down for a, frankly, disgusting amount of time while loading them up with burning. This variant is especially good at dealing with hand rez spam. You've got plenty of CC's to interrupt the rezes, multiple hard hitting fields with Prime Light Beam, Napalm, and Acid Bomb, and poison for downstate bodies with fumigate and poison dart volley.

They can try and face tank though it, but more often than not the attempt ends up in a team-wide wipe

Of course, the best kills are the "wtf killed me" kills where you hit Photon Blitz against an enemy thief running away and they just... die. Poof, stealth, then they mysteriously reappear in downstate 5 seconds later.

Next on the list, a scrapper build with a new flavor of 1111111 spam that is even easier to play than the old one, yet infinitely more amusing

Who gave the Junk man a canon?

a.k.a Mortar Scrapper

For people like me who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, I suggest following the advice in this thread because why play the game when you can let the game play for you?

How does this one work?

So you're going to want to roleplay a Deadeye, or a sic em Soulbeast. Whichever floats your boat. Find yourself a nice high perch where people have to go out of their way to get to you. Select your target, and proceed to follow the incredibly strict rotation of: 111111111111111111. For quickness, the first skills I like to burn are my heal toolbelt, elixir U toolbelt, and blast gyro. This lets me maintain my more important cooldowns for when I really need them.

Continue until target goes into downstate. Then calmly relocate yourself to your f5 key. Press that on the downstate... and then you're going to want to flash them-- err.. flash shell so that they don't kill your adorable gyro buddy.

For the people with fancy feet, you can follow a slightly more complicated rotaiton.... So you're going to want to drop an Endothermic Shell on top of yourself. This will cause your mortars to  inflict the target with a debuff that makes their feet 66% less fancy. Continue 1111111 spam until target(s) are dead.

Eventually your opponents may catch onto your ruse. When this happens, simply rotate camera 180 degrees and continue 11111 spam as you run away with permenant superspeed. When they drop low, that is when you pull out your trusty hammer and ram it into their face organ with much quickness. This will make them instantly regret their actions and fall over. Fling your adorable gyro buddy at them to finish them off.

Finally a Core Engi build... ... ...

...

.....

Core engi sucks. Go play a different class.

...But no seriously, Woodstock has a good core engi build if you're interested.

And that is how to have fun in PvP as an Engineer. Happy feeding my friends~
