Yakuzai.6593
Iam playing gw2 since end of 2018, and pvp was one of my first destinations and i keep playing it till now. When i started playing pvp at that time it somehow seemed balance in that way, that condition builds/classes as well as power builds/classes were all legit - to be more precise: There was a clear line between condi builds, bunkers and power builds. Condition: applied tons of conditions on one, but it was rather "damage over time" then condition burst like it is now, getting 50 stacks of anything instantly and eating 70k burn damage withing 1 sec. xD Bunkers: Were tanky, therefore they sustained a bit longer, but still it was possible to handle in a 1v1 - currently bunkers are gods, you literally need at least 2 if not even 3 player to take down a good bunker. On top of that necro barriers are toooo tanky to take down, it really takes a long time until you can crush the necro/reaper/scourge barriers - back in 2018 it wasnt like that, the barrier was just an additional shell that i could handle pretty good as a power class, instead of needing "10 hits" to take down the enemy i needed "15-20" hits to take the enemy down - now barriers last a whole game, the defense coefficient or whatever it is on barriers is too high, it should be designed so that dmg applied to barriers are higher, so it really just acts as an additional shell instead of an additional health bar of 20k+ hp. Power: applied bursty dmg, but were glass cannons, so heavy punishement for making mistakes, which more or less didnt changed over the time. The point is, when back in 2019 or 2020 (not sure) the last big balance patch appeared in which they reduced the overall power level, things started to escalate. Due to the reduced power level, toughness as an attribute gained more attention and this current meta was born. If you watch ATs you will notice that those finalists always played bunker focused compositions even before this big balance patch came out. So there was always some kind of abusing the tankiness of certain classes paired with tanky oriented gear in pvp-conquest. But it wasnt much popular for solo-que ranked games. Now all you need for sucess is ideally some premates, 2 bunkers and 3 dps/roamer etc. and if you play like this against pug teams, there is very high winchance. Overall PvP-Conquest as a game mode is too fragile to be exploited in the current state. Edited May 23, 2021 by Yakuzai.6593

An engineer p/p firearms build for example saw nearly 70% reduction in burst damage. So yes please, give me something that dump 50 stacks instantly.

Pre-nerf condi dh bursted harder than every power build.
Stalima.5490
I believe part of the problem is that they changed certain conditions to stack intensity rather than duration, burn in particular gets way too powerful in pvp.
