SoulGuardian.6203
Just want to say Thank You so much for the #1 best game I've ever played, and can't wait to get back after a year absence. This is, by far, the best game ever. It does everything I want in a game. Of course I have my own personal preferences, just like everyone else; but I'm not going into that. After 30+ years of gaming experience, I never found another game as unique as Guild Wars. Edit: Removed this bit because it was irrelevant. But this is about thanking all of the GW team for all their hard work and dedication. I remember asking for advice in Mod DB, which is the best RPG MMO out there, and someone replied Guild Wars. ... and they were right. I've been playing on and off since about 2009 ish because of life circumstances... unfortunately. Last I played with a new engie I was leveling up, somewhere in the shiverpeaks before my computer blew. I'm really anxious to get back and continue the IBS where I left off. I want to buy a lot of new character slots too, just for other races. I even happen to have a list of all the names I'm going to use and drawings of what they're going to look like. Unfortunately, the pandemic situation has hit harder than I thought and right now I'm not in a good financial situation. I have priorities, such as paying bills, buy food, etc... I just got fired two days ago precisely because of it. No costumers equals no business. I can play on my old school PS2 all I like, it's still not the same. Such a shame that GW1 wasn't made for ps2, or at least a simplified version of it. The closest to GW I can get is FF12, but even then, gambits are not the same as GW skills. Different armour does not display on characters, which is also very confusing. Weapons are limited, not like the vast gw collection. Anyways, thank you so much, and I can't wait to comeback. Thanks for reading. Edited May 24, 2021 by SoulGuardian.6203 Removed irrelevant bit. 4
Veprovina.4876
I've never heard an MMO offer offline mode. Can you give some examples? Any game that's on a server can't do that because whatever is saved on a client computer can be hacked and modified. That's why everything is on a server. GW1 might have gotten away with an offline mode since it's mostly instanced, but there would probably be too many security risks there as well... So you know... You'll have to keep enjoying GW2 online. Good luck! Hope you get back on your feet soon. I know what' it's like. Command & Conquer, including Renegade, and other RTSs. Also FPS such as Battlefield. Transformers, Grand Theft Auto. A lot of Playstation games. A lot of PsP games. UT 2004, and 3. A lot of mobile games. A lot of browser games. 2 hours ago, Veprovina.4876 said: Any game that's on a server can't do that because whatever is saved on a client computer can be hacked and modified. You're right about this though. Why I quit playing some of those games online. Command and Conquer for instance. 2 hours ago, Veprovina.4876 said: So you know... Guild wars and simmilar are "massively multiplayer online" games. Meaning they're entirely designed to only be played online, each system, each design choice, all made from ground up with the game being on the server and only multiplayer. In any case, doesn't really matter, Anet can't even upgrade the game engine to be stable, i doubt they're going to tackle bringing the game offline. Woudl be cool for when the game stops support so people can still at least somewhat play it idk. Of if they "rent" the source code so that people can make their own servers idk...

Something along those lines. The idea would be to have two separate save files. They would keep the online one server sided, and create on client sided, so whatever progress you made offline, stayed offline, and vice versa. b k.1648
Making an offline mode for a game that's presently online-only would require adding a bunch of server functions to the client, which opens them up to reverse-engineering. This could therefore lead to exploit risks for the online game as well. One of the main reasons why so many multiplayer games with inventories and character progression became online-only from the '00s onwards was to make cheating more difficult, and internet connections have improved to the point there's no longer a significant market who can't run online-only games. I imagine ANet would be quite reluctant to expose their server code for meagre gains in offline-only players.
SoulGuardian.6203
Yeah. Unfortunately cheaters ruin it for everyone else. I remember being really annoyed in renegade going online pvp because of aimbots, wall hacks, and infinite credits. Sometimes you'd see someone come out of their base with a Mammoth Tank, which is the most expensive vehicle in the whole game, mere seconds after the match started. So I started playing solo against the computer... which is not the same thing, but atleast the AI wouldn’t cheat. We don't want that to happen in GW. Still, some pvp and wvw players here say there are. Also that there are farming bots? If it's true, then in a way, the problem already exists. So making an offline addition probably wouldn't make much of a difference, unless the issue is people stealing and copying the game's data? I don't know. Since I don't really pvp much and only occasionally do wvw, doesn’t bother me. But the usual players must be furious.
