Rollerbeetle dismount - am I doing this wrong?

I have continual problems trying to dismount from the rollerbeetle. I have X as my dismount key, which I think is the default.

 

I press X and I keep on rolling, rolling, rolling. Is it supposed to be an instant dismount? I also have the problem when I'm not using the speed boost.

 

Is there some magic I am missing? The problem doesn't occur for the other mounts. Could it be ping (bounces around 250-270)?

Their is a frame after the boost where you can't dismount.

Otherwise I don't have problem with that.

Try another key ? Mine is on the mouse.

You can't dismount during a boost, only after the boost completes fully. Alternatively, you can dismount, i think even during a boost, witht he 1 power. It'll propell you more forward so use it a bit earlier than you think you want to dismount.

You also cannot dismount while in the air.  So if you hit a microbump that causes the roller beetle to "jump" a little, you can't dismount until he hits the ground.  It's really easy to catch a little air while rolling at high speed, so that makes dismounting a little tricky.  The only 100% surefire way to dismount anywhere is Bond of Faith.
