Please increase the drop rate for fossilized insects or make them tradeable

I've found 3 total out of 400+ zephyrite lockpicks.  I've literally gone through 187 keys since I found the last one.  Please increase the drop rate, or add a fall back mechanic where you are guaranteed to get one after using a certain number of keys, or make them tradeable.

How are people expected to complete the collection?  It's bad enough that the recipes costs as many geodes as they do but you can't even progress to the point where you need to buy those because you are spending all of your geodes on keys for fossilized bugs that never drop.

You can do the maguma wastes reward track for them.

I know, but I'm not sure that spending 8 hours in WvW to get one is really any better.  I mean, if you have to go to a completely different game mode to get them instead of playing the content where they are supposed to drop doesn't that just bolster the argument that the drop rate in Dry Top is too low?

As someone who completed this collection (and used competitive reward tracks in additon to farming Sandstorms) I will say only this.:

In all the unfun grind I have ever done in this game, the big weapon collection was perhaps the least fun. It completely tested my love for this game.

Don't do it.

The reward isn't worth it. Get the skins you want and move on.

You can finish a reward track in about 4 hours with boosters, it's actually an easy option if you enjoy WvW or PvP.

Reward tracks are like consolation prizes for people who enjoy PvP and WvW so they don't feel left out when they exit those modes, it really has nothing to do with what OP is saying.

There's really no reason for account bound items to have such abysmall drop rates - they're not directly in the economy and it's an outdated system that has no place in the game really, especially not for such old content that'll be dead in a few weeks when people finish the achievements.

I get why infusions are so rare, they're trophy items and you don't need them for anything, but some grind like this in the game should be toned down as it serves no purpose, at least not anymore.

I hear you, OP. I have the complete collection but that is because these are my most favorite weapons of the entire game. I sometimes even skin my Legendary weapons with it.  But the unlucky streaks with finding a Fossil are just painful.

I also do not really understand why they made the RNG so harsh on the fossils: you still have to do a LOT of grinding for Geodes for the recipes. And it's not that those Geodes come in plenty. Luckily there was a Guild that did a weekly Tier 6  Dry Top run in the time I was doing this collection, and I made sure I joined every time.

I have never had an unlucky  streak of 187 though: that must have been infuriating. I am now trying to get one or two Fossils for 2 of my Alt accounts, and it is not going well. As in nothing yet so far.

That pretty much just undescores the point made - that the "alternate" path for that drop, that should never be a primary choice, but instead exists as a backup, in case you're a pvp player turns out to be massively superior to what should be the default option.

There should be either a better drop rate, or some kind of backup for PvE players - perhaps buying those for geodes, or something like that. Doing Dry Top should be the main pathway of obtaining those, not be reduced to being a significantly inferior, secondary option.

Why changing a collection now thats like 6 years old.

I for myself grinded the collection only recently and I totally agree that it is super annoying to get done and since I am a mastery point collector I had to have it.

Some collections are just insane to finish completely, the luminescent armor on the silverwastes is literally the same long tedious grind but it makes the reward even more rewarding at the end 🙂

Anyhow I doubt Anet will nerf the requirements for this collection, its way too old to change in my opinion, the only thing that you can do is either grind the map out or do wvw/pvp OR if you are rich on money, buy current BL keys and use the mist potions on maguma reward tracks, its not the smoothest option but it technically gets you there aswell 🙂

I'd be first in line to profiteer off PvE players that won't do any WvW/PvP and would rather grind PvE for the fossils. 😄

I've been deleting fossils and just grinding the sand from the reward track 😛

Same lol. The Maguuma Wastes reward track x5 or so is enough for a stack of glass, which is 10 frostbrood potions. Way more time-saving than trying to get the sand from Dry Top or Silverwastes. Anyway, I've been debating whether to keep the fossils kicking around my bank space or delete them.

Finally finished the Ambrite set this year (the geodes and recipes were what was holding me back, not the bugs), but would love to see the insects be made saleable.

The Serpentite Jewels went through a similar change; Time-gated RNG drops for a weapon collection that eventually became saleable (they created a new version of the item so people who'd banked a lot of them couldn't instantly profit, but c'est la vie). I see they've also done the same with Prismatium Ingots, so it seems like a no-brainer to allow all grindy weapon achievements to have their RNG elements eventually be up for sale to combat the reduced activity in old content.

Maybe this should be a thing that happens a year or so after a weapon set gets released? It'd give people incentive to play through the content while it's fresh, and then, after activity dries up, it'd offer an alternative for anyone who comes after.

Lol where did you read that? He was asking for increased drop rates from chests and a fallback mechanic that guarantees an item drop from a chest if you didn't get a drop in X number of chests - to keep it more or less consistent and less of a grind.

I don't see asking for other methods of obtaining insects other than from chests here.

The "How are people able to complete the collection" so people told him another way. He doesn't have to word it directly just so you can prove you were correct which you weren't.

The fact that he asked for them to be made tradeable in itself is a seprate method to obtain them... Pretty clear if you ask me...

Still not asking for an alternative way - more like expressing annoyance at the things he mentioned.

Oh well... 🤷‍♂️

I would support making them tradable. (I actually would like just about EVERYTHING in the game to be tradable, but that's another story. XD) I finished the collection years ago, but I still have a handful of unused Fossil Insects sitting in my Mat storage that's serving no purpose. If somebody wanted to buy them, I would be more than happy to sell!

You can trade them in drytop for 3 bags of some stuff.

Yeah, that exchange is an insult considering how rare the Fossil Insects are. :P It's essentially saying the fossils are worth 3 greens and a piddly bit of Silky Sand, which is far from true considering how hard they are to acquire for players who DO want them.

I've found two just this week and I know I've opened less than 50 chests for that. Maybe you're just unlucky?

It's the exact opposite. You got lucky.

Personally, I intend to just get the geodes using the festival supply currency exchange thing. Seems much simpler.

Well, the geodes was not the part this thread was about, so...
