I just bought the Commander's tag and would like to lead a zerg in WvW

Recommended Posts

I don't plan on using Discord or anything; I just want to tag up and run around capping objectives. My current WvW rank is just 320 and I literally know nothing about WvW tactics. My current plan if I meet an enemy blob is to bum rush them (if we are a large group) or evade/port away (if we are a smaller group). Also I ran WvW almost fulltime for the last 4-5 weeks already and kinda know the best spots to place catapults to take down keeps and towers.

Is there any tips I should know? Or should I just wing it and hope people don't flame me?

Edit: Forgot to mention, I typically only play solo. So I plan to just tag up and let players join.

In all seriousness I would get more experience with the mode , at least 1226 rank for max WvW masteries.
If you're used to playing solo unless you are using your tag as a marker you won't be of much value to other players otherwise. Definitely at least try to follow experienced commanders and know what is expected of you when you tag up.

Some key things you should be aware of:
* figure out where your stability , boon rip, and condi clears are coming from
* organize subgroups with stability

* put condi clear in each subgroup
* blast smokefields for stealth before engaging enemy group
* push chokepoints only with Inspiring reinforcement (the road) on heralds and/or "Stand Your Ground" on guardians , never into Winds of Disenchantment domes
* put all the roamer classes with self sustain builds in their separate subgroup , especially if they don't stay close to the rest of the group
* know where to place offensive and defensive siege (comes with experience , for example cata-ing both inner /outer wall) -- applies even if you intend to k-train
* read up on every major WvW build if you don't play all classes (you really should)
* remember how much supply you need for each piece of siege you drop

You dont really need discord and meta if you just want to tag up but be prepared to be flamed to hell and back if you dont tag down when a "real" commander tags up on the border and demand everyone on tag or else. Whether you want to be diplomatic or not is your choice.

When running around, just do whats expected. Pug commanding is like following a stream. Dont suddenly make a turn. If there is a tower in front, siege that. If you run near a camp, take it. If you meet a zerg, either fight it or avoid it, dont half measure. You will notice if you fail at this because your zerg will be spreading out all over the place doing what you should be doing.

Hardcore commanding is a whole different beast and require discord and meta groups.

Great suggestions above.  I'd also recommend possibly finding a guild that is heavily into wvw.  You could practice with them, and with experienced players and commanders to help guide, and in a private squad so hopefully they don't obliterate you on map chat 😉
