Kadriel.5478
Hey guys! Tl;Dr version: I need a longbow ranger/soulbeast build that is viable. Long version: I am pretty new to the game and I am mostly playing ranger. I intend to play as a druid eventually, but since I: - Feel playing as a dps is easier for open word/soloing; -Only have two ascended recipes so far and they are bot zojja (working on the first, 3 days to go); -Think a healer is a more critical role and dps is less likely to screw the party if I mess up, so it is better to learn the game; I will be mostly be playing as a dps/soulbeast for now. I do however like the longbow better. I do realize i situationally need to stay close to the boss for boons, but I feel safer playing from range (besides enjoying it more). So I'd like some help with a longbow ranger/soulbeast build. I did check the builds site, specifically the power dps build, but I find it a little weird as it use traits for greatsword or poison without a poison applying skill. Is someone playing a longbow build or have one share?

Uses dagger/axe and longbow. Give it a try, should meet your needs.

Don't use Vulture Stance on a power build. Sic'Em and Dolyak Stance (replace with Frost Spirit for instanced grp content) are much more useful utilities. Even frost trap would be better, especially when using the Marksmanship version. Generally the MM version might lack fury and cc uptime for Predator's Onslaught to be useful, so not sure if it is worth running solo (haven't tested it tho). I would recommend something like this http://gw2skills.net/editor/?POwAMdflZwAZPsImJWsX/P9SGxbA-zRIYRUzXC2OA-e You can replace Moa Stance with Signet of the Wild or Frost Trap (Frost Spirit for grp content, unless another ranger already provides it), but would then use Two-Handed Training to help with fury uptime. Healing Spring or Bear Stance can help, if conditions are an issue. Mainhand axe can be replaced with sword or dagger (i don't like the latter for open world due to lack of cleave and clunkyness, but it has best dps) for a slight dps increase, however axe is fine and allows for some ranged gameplay without camping longbow. Exotic gear is perfectly fine, ascended is only neccessary for high lvl fractals. If going full berserker's feels too glassy, mixing in some marauder's pieces can be a good idea. Camping longbow should be avoided. It works fine for open world (because anything goes there), but might teach bad habits. If the goal is to transition into a bit more challenging grp content eventually, it is recommendable to get used to swapping weapons regulary and playing in melee range, even with a bow equipped. But generally i wouldn't worry too much about playing "perfect" builds as a new player. Having fun is the most important part and don't hesitate to just try out different things, it will help to learn and understand how the game and class works, which is just as important (if not more) as playing the correct build.
