Why does Gw2 have no advertising?

Recommended Posts

Is it just me, or does gw2 have zero advertising?

Before getting back into the game, I was looking around for random games to play on youtube. I've seen ESO ads WoW ads and a bunch of other games but not once did I see any gw2 advertisements. The game is way better now than it ever was, so much new content, on a hardcore and casual level. Open world bosses are more fun than ever before. When it comes to PvE, mechanically, it is completely different. I honestly get Wildstar PvE feels when playing the new content/maps. Not as hard but very interactive.

Guild Wars 2 needs advertising. The game is on a whole different level than what most MMO gamers think. For a game with almost zero advertising, the game is really populated. I can only imagine if they were to actually invest in their advertising department.

Because ANet isn't really great with advertisement. Why that is the case, wether it's a thing with missing budget or maybe it's just something where they never bothered to hire competent people, I don't know.

I have a feeling Anet's marketing budget is minuscule. I haven't found anything related to Guild Wars 2 online without actively searching for it.

Which makes no sense. That's one of the main ways any good company invests in their product. It's mind boggling

The thing that actually got me to play GW2 was posters and game covers for GW1 that I saw in Gamestop before the launch of GW2.

The last thing I bought in a Gamestop was a Nintendo Switch 4 years ago.

They need that marketing team back.

The taxi promo is probably the most memorable of the ad-blunders. But there was also the cape guy that informed us about out of game merch when he should have been talking about some upcoming features(or something along those lines), then there are the numerous colabs with weird franchises like bubble tea that are usually far from perfectly worked out and US-only, and there was the big griffon model they paraded around conventions instead of having an actual booth or maybe a panel to hype PoF to the masses.

Just google "MMORPG".
It's right next to WoW.
When people look for and want to play an MMORPG, it will be really hard not to hear/read about the current MMO giants, which includes GW2.

I would expect them to launch a marketing campaign once they are ready to share more information about the next expansion.
Most people I know which tend to play MMOs have played GW2 and quit because they prefer a gear treadmill for PvE or were frustrated with the lack of build diversity and the state of PvP.
I have very high doubts marketing is what is needed.

Maybe I should ask my real life friends how they found it. About a year ago when the pandemic first started I suddenly found out that about 8 people I know had gotten into GW2. I'm not sure where or how they found out about it, except that I hadn't recommended it recently but when they were all looking for something to do together online GW2 was one of the first games they tried out so they were clearly aware of it or able to find out about it quickly.

GW2 is somewhat advertised, but they usually advertise it on gaming sites around an expansion launch or new deals. The last banner ad I recall had a choya advertising getting HoT for free when purchasing PoF. The game is also reviewed quite favorably on MMO sites.

cuz gw2 has no funding because there's no monthly fee

and they tried to milk cash shop, but it just kills the game slowly, as game's end game is skin and by milking cash shop with better skins just drives player away which resulted them in this current situation.

i still play this game tho as i can play this game casually with no worry to gear and what not, but i don't care about the game anymore,

if this happens to a more hardcore game i'd straight quit.

i'd start playing other MMOs but i dont have time for multiple games. i just won't spend any money in this game anymore, other then expansion
