Game freeze- entire computer freeze

Recommended Posts

Since two days ago, I've been experiencing full game freezes that also completely freeze my computer- no mouse movement, no ability to bring up task manager, etc. My only solution is to hard shut off and restart at that point.

I thought it was just Dry Top (4x) and due to the new events, but it has now happened in Silverwastes (1x) and Divinity's Reach (1x). I've tried running the client repair- that froze. Then I uninstalled, restarted, reinstalled (then froze in Silverwastes and DR).

I can't think of what else to do. The game is stored on a 1TB SSD, and I have played the game both with and without no other programs and still have had this happen.

Sounds like Video Card is over heating and shutting down, check your video card fan see if its clogged with dust and or find a temp monitor for it.

Unfortunately I did in fact, open up and blow. =/
|Edit: there was no dust. -.-

Maybe run a ram test, see if you have an error.

Step 1: Open the Start Menu and type in mdsched.exe, then press enter.

Step 2. A pop-up will appear on your screen, asking how you'd like to go about checking the memory. The first option will restart your machine and check the memory right now, and the second option checks the next time you choose to reboot. Pick the option that best suits your needs.

Step 3: Your computer will load a screen that shows the progress of the check and number of passes it will run on the memory. Watch the memory diagnostic tool for errors. If there are no errors, then it's likely that your RAM is not causing any issues, and it's time to investigate other hardware or software issues.

Exactly the same. 4th time. Mostly during pvp. Started after 25.5. patch

I'm glad I'm not the only one, I searched about 30 pages on here looking before I posted. I'll be restarting and doing the check mentioned above.

I have the same problem, so I can't even play the game. After today's update 06/08, when I try to update the game, my whole pc hangs, I can only move the mouse and nothing else, the only way out is to turn off the power. I hope it's something just gw2 related, I can open other games normally without any of this happening.

Other than that I formatted my pc thinking it would be something related to it, but when I try to downgrade the gw2 it gave the same thing, every pc crashes. Sad

Sorry to hear, I don't even get mouse movement. I'm hoping this is something that will be fixed in the update as it seems to only have become an issue after the last patch.

My error test came back clean.

After the last patch I had two "freeze screen" crashes followed by "send report" to Anet, to make things crazier file says 8Gb of memory was "used" which is a lot for any game let alone for GW2! My 5 cents go to something "went wrong" in last patch or update for it....since I haven`t really seen instability and crash in GW2 for a very long time. BTW it only happens in GW2 so I excluded hardware problems. Hope they fixed it soon, first time crash was in "Hidden Arcana" and prologue for that mission is so long and u can`t skip it...

Yea I had 2 crashes today aswell, restarting computer seem to have helped.

Guess I should do that more then once a month.

I think we all need that reminder. I seem to be fine after the last patch.

  • 4 weeks later...
  • 1 year later...

has anyone still got this problem?

it seems to happen shortly after changing maps/zones e.g It happened when I land my griffon in Dry Top, start riding my Warclaw in WvW and today I was scrolling the map in Crystal desert after arriving from LA.

My GPU is a RX 5500XT that passes firestrike/timespy benchmarks and I will try a stress test when I remember to.

Continues to happen after I upgraded from an Intel Pentium G6400 to an i5-10400F
