The Boz.2038
There are no target heals in this game. No target cleanses. Not a single ability requires a friendly target. You get no additional combat relevant information about a friendly target when clicking on them vs when they're in your group. So why can you just... randomly click on them in combat, and lose your actual target? Why can you click on Xx Stormtiger Xx when trying to click through the fifteen anomalies to target LLA? Are you honestly just supposed to stand there and tab until you see the name? Can we please have some sanity introduced here? If in combat, can't click on allied targets. There. Fixed. Done. If you really want to, implement it as a checkbox in the Options. ☑ Blick allied targeting in combat 1
SoftFootpaws.9134
Because it allows instant casting of support skills on allies that need it. For example, in WvW, you can click a player with low health in the squad UI and use snap to target to instantly cast support abilities on them, without ally selection this wouldn't be possible. Your statement that there's no targetted heals in this game is incorrect, all support abilities are targetted unless they're PBAoE (which is a few exceptions like Healing Spring), they just affect more than one player unlike many other games. Its extremely important in competitive modes and even high-end PvE. Edited June 7, 2021 by Hannelore.8153 2
The Boz.2038
But you accomplish this by clicking on their icon in the party/squad menu, not their name in the world.

Depends on the situation. In a large wvw zerg you may want to cast your skills on a target that is not necessarily in your subgroup. Good luck with finding the right person in a zerg of 50 in the middle of combat. On the other hand, it's easy to target them if they're right in front of you and you see that they're low. In a way I guess it's a question of playing the game vs. playing the UI.
The Boz.2038
In any situation in which you can selecti an ally reliably and fire off an area snap-lock heal at them is also a situation in which you can just... fire off the area heal in their direction and have them affected.
The Boz.2038
Also, additionally, checkbox.
Za Shaloc.3908
To click on an ally to rez them instead of finishing the downed enemy next to them. Can't tell you how many times I have tried to rez but start to finish the enemy instead. Also to see their boons/condis/buffs/etc. I mean why not? It is extremely relevant. The Boz.2038
But you can already see their boons/condis/buffs in the party/squad window. Also, again, *checkbox*
