What do I do with this?

I swapped out all of my exotic armour for ascended.  Problem is I can't do anything but destroy my old exotic amour.  I can't salvage, sell or run it through the mystic forge.  What's that all about?  Such a waste to just destroy it and it's runes.

What armor do you have? There's very little exotic armor that can't be recovered somehow. If you're worried about the runes, you might be able to use upgrade extractors if you've gotten some from black lion chests or login rewards.

 

But congrats on getting ascended gear! That can be a long process.

Did you get the exotic armour when you used a level 80 boost? That stuff, like the level up rewards, can't be sold, salvaged or put in the Mystic Forge because it's supposed to be only useful when you're, well using it, not as a way of getting gold or materials.

Yeah, it's a mixture of level 80 exotic light armour.  Usually as a last resort you can always put it through the MF ringer, but not this time.

I just had a thought.  Is it because some, or all  of it is transmuted?

Ah!  That will be it.  It was my first character and did receive the boost.  Thanks for clearing that up for me.

I don't think so. I've shoved transmuted stuff into the forge before, and the display tip for said item just has a caution that the item is transmuted, and will behave as the original for purposes of the MF. I think it's just because it's soulbound on acquire. You can extract the runes fairly cheaply. Upgrade extractors are available via BL statuette store, and possibly through the laurel merchant.
