Beginner PVE ele gear?

Got one of my friends into the game. He picked ele, and so far has a blast with weaver. Now that he is 80, I can throw some exotic gear his way.

We aim to do fractals at least, and he's probably going to stay DPS at least initially. I'm reluctant to give him glass cannon gear, because you know - new ele player. I've seen that open-world weaver guide, but I'm equally reluctant about toughness on gear. Any advices? Power or condi? Craft full glass, or make something with vitality?

Depends on what you're trying to accomplish. are you trying to break a speedrun record or just finish the fractal within a respectable time frame with everyone having fun?

Either way I can give some direction with numbers:

Toughness:

1000-1400= Glass

1500-1800= Bruiser

1900+ = Tank

Power:

2200+ = Glass

1700-2100= Bruiser

1000-1600= Tank

Vitality:

10k-14k = Expert

14k - 16k= Comfort

17k+= Beginner

Crit dmg% :

150% - 170% = Tank

180%-200% = Bruiser

200%+ = Glass

Crit chance%:

5%-25% = Tank

30%-45% = Bruiser

50%+= Glass

Healing power:

0-400= Glass

500-700= Bruiser

800+ = Tank

Condition damage:

0-800= Very low damage

900-1200= Ok damage

1300+= High damage

Boon duration:

0-20% = Pointless

30%-40%= Bruiser

50%+ = Tank

The numbers are not arbitrary, they're based on formulas used to calculate dmg and healing in GW2, for instance if planning to play a power spec and you have a consistent cirt chance less than 40% than you should expect a low return for your investment, a dangerous power build achieve above 40% crit chance or consistently stay above it thx to trait and more. With healing power less than 500, a SoR would be pointless to use and I'd suggest to use the Glyph or Ether renewal. With elementalist is all about the right return for your investment. Considering your friend is new, then expensive gear like Trailblazer and celestial are out of the equation, so the next best thing you can do is to have a mix of cav/knight/soldier and cleric the cheapest gear you can have on ele

Really it's really really hard to gear up an ele without access to bare minimum gera like celestial which can take at least one week to get( 6 pieces of armor ), sadly the class is what it is and you need investment in every single stat to make the most out of the class, depending on the scope you then invest more in a direction or another but the foundation is always cele based

The trailblazer set with undead runes running the fire/earth build listed in my open world weaver thread works perfectly fine for all fractals up to and including challenge modes (although it is not meta, of course).

For a cheaper alternative you can run dire stats with Balthazar rune. The damage isn't as high but should still be more than adequate for fractals up through t4.

Ha sorry... Fractals up to t4...in exotic gear? We're getting ahead of ourselves! Your friend should be fine in dire to start.
