Expansion ever coming out?

Recommended Posts

I'm genuinely concerned is the expansion actually coming out? Because whilst it was announced a while ago, there hasn't been any follow up, no content has been shown or released to the public and it feels like GW2 is just recycling content right now. If the expansion was coming out anytime soon I'm sure they'd be publishing something similar to what they've been doing with PoF.

Also chrono quickness max instances (of 9) is still bugged whilst Anet apparently looked for it. Like... Is Anet really capable of releasing a new expansion if they can't even figure out how to fix basic bugs. Regardless of how spagethi the code is right.... it's their own game with their own game engine. If they can't fix it, then is it time to jump ship?

Our first major step on the journey to Cantha is coming soon. On 27 July join us for a livestream event with a tidal wave of information about the third Guild Wars 2 expansion, including features, an introduction to the story, a new trailer video, and elite specialisation beta event information.

How can you complain about "no info" when you don't even bother checking the news page?

Completely false, as pointed out by the above users.

To be fair, not completely false. While they have announced their intentions to release new information, they haven't at this time provided any information to the players about the expansion since the original teaser.

Granted, it is understandable, since they just started working on it last year after the IBS model failed. I wouldn't expect this expansion to actually drop until end of the year at the soonest, judging by how they are trying to stall as much as possible with recycled content.

No, it wasn't. People literally gave you the link, but for some reason you prefer to stay uninformed and then complain about it. 🙄

Well no they still aren't entirely correct. There still has been nothing shown about the contents of the expansion between the time of its announcement and now. There will be more shown on the 27th of July, but as of this moment there is still essentially zero information on the expansion other than its name and the location its in.

Not exactly true, either.  There have been some concept art pieces released since the announcement.

It's great that you want to argue about the semantics someone already pointed out in this thread before, but the information about "preview of the upcomming expansion" IS an information about the expansion actually comming out. Re-read the OP and notice how the main point (as well as the question in the title of the thread) is doubt about the expansion comming out at all. Considering the context of this thread, this IS an information about the upcomming expansion that DOES show it comes out, which makes the doubt/question posed by OP unreasonable.

The Living World revisit is supposed to be part of the build up to the expansion. Based on the rate at which that's happening, the expansion is likely dropping November-ish.

Assuming 1 week 'intermission' for each holiday events and 1 episode per week of everything LW3/4/5, 2022 is more likely.

No, even with a week's break between each season, that brings us back to early December at the most.

This will still count in 2021 as announced by arena

People really don't pay attention or look slightly for updates.

By the way, a launch in December seems very irresponsible since Anet goes out on vacation during Christmas and New Years. Expansions usually take immediate and long term attention to fix likely errors to come out soon after. They won't have enough time between a December launch and vacation. They left game breaking bugs in the game during the year turnover after PoF launched while having months to fix them.

Just did a quick count, assuming they treat Icebrood: Champions as a single episode, it should be wrapping up in mid-November. If they break Champions into the bits that it originally launched in, then it'll be done early December. Either way, enough to get the expansion out this year if they don't put a large gap between finishing the Living World revisit and launching EoD.

Yep and every company reveals information about the expansion on a reveal date.  This isn't like something new that just happened. They reveal information when they're ready to release that information, not before.

You're impatient so you want information. But the information releases has nothing at all to do with the actual progress on programming. Keeping that stuff a secret is an industry norm. A secret until you're ready to talk about it. That means a time closer to launch when you want to start building steam.

Anet has already said they announced HoT too early and they learned from it. They didn't announce PoF until much closer to release, even though they did say they were working on POF.

At the end of the day this is exactly like the PoF release so far, so I don't see what your issue is.

you have trouble with number I guess, PoF was announced 1st august 2017 and released 22nd sept 2017 how does that compare to the 12th march 2020 and release maybe 2021 if not 2022 for EoD
it's fine to announce an xpac/game release early but then you need to feed your fan/playerbase with development update. if you don't want to do so then you do like PoF and say "Btw bois we got new kitten next month, enjoy"

No trouble here.  Anet announced the were working on expansion long before the official announcement.  They haven't made the official announcement yet, they've only said they're working on it.  You may not remember knowing long before the announcement that Anet was working on an expansion, but me and everyone I knew pretty much did.  They didn't give us any real information until the official announcement.  Pretty much just like it is now.

I thought a lot of the 'official' information about Path of Fire came about because of the big leak.

I'm not sure everything happened according to plan because of that.

As to the Path of Fire expansion, here's a post from January of 2017 stating the playerbase already knew the studio had been working on the second expansion for a year (see point #2):

Jup. GaEm DeD! Move on with your life, but send me your stuff before you leave. /sarcasm

It's ready when it's ready. And I like that approach a lot more than the "Star Citizen"-approach of "we will have X, Y and Z in the game!!! All new and better! Much Hype!!! Very WoW!!! Just wait a bit more" and then you either wait forever or something is released that will never ever live up to he hype.

Also I wouldn't believe in any hype coming from ANet if there was any. Seing is believing.
