It will not, unless you purchased Heart of Thorns as well. The Elite specializations are unlocked at level 80, AFTER unlocking all your core specializations and skills.

Level 80 Boosts have no connection whatspeer to elite specs of any campaign. You need to own the campaign and unlock them there like everyone else. The boost doesn't give you Hero Points beyond what you get at Level 80, either.

In order to get an elite spec you need to own the expansion with the elite spec that you want and you will have to spend hero points in order to unlock the elite spec for the character. HoT elite specs cost 250 hero points to fully unlock. Hero Points in HoT are worth 10 points each. We do not yet know if Anet has decided to keep the values the same for PoF elite specs and maps.

Hello, didn't using the level 80 boost (or any of the level boosters) used to give the level up rewards? The wiki says it doesn't but doesn't say it used to and I can't find information on that change. I remember opening the rewards after using a level boost. Anyone know what happened?

The level 80 boost didn't ever give level up rewards, it gives you a box of level 80 equipment instead. If you use a level up scroll or tomes then you do get the level up rewards.

To clear this up, the level 80 boost puts a character at level 80 immediately and gives him a boost related exotic full set. You do not acquire any of the individual upgrade awards (unlike level X-scrolls and level up tomes).

Any character at level 80 will have EXACTLY enough hero points to learn ALL core class skills and traits.

Elite specializations require:

  • ALL core class skills unlocked
  • the relevant expansion purchased to account (HoT elites are not available to PoF only accounts or core accounts)
  • 250 hero points to fully unlock

Hero points can be acquired in ANY of the 3 areas (core, HoT and PoF) and used on ANY skills and traits.

As such, to answer your question: No, using the level 80 boost will not provide you with the ability to immediately learn the HoT or PoF elite specialziation. You still need to acquire 250 hero points (core hero points are 1 per challenge, HoT and PoF hero challenges provide 10 each). How you spend those is up to you though and you could use the PoF 80 boost to get a character up, then use the first 250 hero points on unlocking the HoT (provided you have the expansion) elite.

OP likely figured it out in the two years since posting. :)

Here's the official video released at the same time L80 Boosts were introduced:
