elchancho.3759
It has been years since I have played and I am scratching my head about a legendary weapon in my bank. I have a Howler that doesn't have the outline of my other legendaries, but the name is purple. It also doesn't have the maxed out legendary stats. It is also soulbound instead of account bound. What did I do years ago or what is the solution to make it account bound instead of soulbound? Or does it even matter now with the legendary armory? *shrug*
Blood Red Arachnid.2493
Looks like you transmuted the skin onto an exotic piece of equipment. You can't do much with that thing. Chances are, you probably have howler on one of your toons somewhere. If you don't... I'm not sure what to do. If equipping it doesn't unlock the legendary weapon, then try sending a support ticket.
Cyninja.2954
Depending on when you last logged in and played, there are 2 possibilities. 1. you transmuted an exotic onto your legendary before the wardrobe system was introduced. This allowed players to get other stats than soldiers (which where the stats on all legendary weapons at launch). Which would also explain the lower stats. Details can be found here: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Transmutation The transition from the old transmutation system into the current wardrobe system happened on April 15th, 2014. 2. you transmuted the skin of Howler onto another item, in which case the base rarity of the item will state what it is. This would mean you have Howler somewhere on a different character. Edited July 16, 2021 by Cyninja.2954
Danikat.8537
The easiest way to find out what's going on is to look for 2 lines roughly in the middle of the weapon's description, which will either say 'Skin Unlocked - Howler' or 'Transmuted - Another Warhorn Name'. If it's the first one then it's the original legendary and something weird is going on (if that's the case contact Customer Support), but I suspect you'll see the second one, which means this is another weapon you've transmuted to look like the Howler. It gets the purple name and the skin and effects but the stats and functionality come from the other weapon. The next question is: When did you stop playing? Was it before or after April 2014? If it was after April 2014 then the solution is fairly simple: Your original Howler should be somewhere else on your account and you just need to find it. Check all your characters and all through your bank and see if you can find it. If it was before April 2014 then it could be a bit more complicated. That update introduced the Wardrobe and changed how transmutation worked. Now skins are unlocked in the wardrobe when you first bind an item to your account and then you can put that skin onto any matching item as many times as you like, as long as you have the transmutation charges to pay for it. Before then transmutation combined two different items to make a new one with the skin from one and the stats from another. Since legendary weapons had exotic stats and one fixed stat combination it was fairly common to combine them with another exotic weapon to get the stats you wanted, but technically that made a new item. If you did that then this is your original Howler, but all that's left of it is the skin and effects and the stats are from another weapon. Since it's no longer possible to use a transmutation splitter to get back the two original weapons you'll need to contact Customer Support and ask them to do it for you.

If OP could reskin a different warhorn with Howler skin, it means he had to bind it to the account first. In which case it will be automatically transferred to Armory as soon as he logs in on the correct character (and it's not in the bank, because it would have been auto-conveted on the first login). ...unless, of course, that Howler-transmuted item is older than 2014 wardrobe change. In which case OP would have skin unlocked, but probably no legendary anymore. And i don;t believe support is helping those cases anymore.

That's a good point, I forgot that the legendary armoury will find it automatically. That makes it easier then. I didn't realise support wasn't helping people with pre-wardrobe transmuted items though, that seems a shame considering there's always the chance people will come back to the game after a long break. With most items it wouldn't be an issue because players could just get another one, but "just make another legendary" is a lot to ask. I can't imagine it's a lot of requests, but maybe there's other issues I'm not aware of.
