Dajas.4715
OK I know anet said a long time ago they will not be doing a port, but let's face it times have changed with both consoles and with the up and coming revamp to gw2, so in order to keep the played base healthy and with a massive increase to revenue why would they not? Also earlier this year it was mentioned that steam may have a high possibility to come to console, so in that regard if it does surely console players would be able to download it via steam if they allow crossplay. Nc are even now starting to move into crossplay with their mmo titles and being money grabbers they may encourage anet to make the move.? What do people think, do you think anet have to get with the times and realise most games are becoming crossplay, would you welcome the increased player base? I think it could work as other mmo titles have done a great job so far. Fingers crossed 🤞 2 3
Crono.4197
Personally, I don't want this game to ever go to consoles. Why? Because of the console war. We already have too many toxic console fans that are saying that "PC doesn't have X exclusives", yet they either ignore the exclusives the PC has (although not many) or they are begging for them to come to consoles. Losing one more PC exclusive game would worsen the situation. In a world where everything is at peace and people just enjoy the things they like, it would work. In a console war world, no it wouldn't. I think Guild Wars 2 is sitting where it should be. Not all games need to catter to all the markets.
Danikat.8537
I still think the biggest barrier to releasing GW2 on consoles would be having to work with the console certification process, which requires all updates to console games to be submitted for approval by the console manufacturer, which takes about 2 weeks (longer if there's problems) and the software developer has to pay for it. There are good reasons for that. While it's not a comprehensive QA process and doesn't prevent bugs getting through it does mean anything you download on console at least intends to do what it says and isn't a virus or scam shovelware advertised using images stolen from other games (which used to be a very common problem in the early 80s, before this process was introduced) and shouldn't damage your machine. But it does take time and money and restrict how frequently developers can update their software. For example earlier this year a big update to Elder Scrolls Online introduced a number of serious bugs which broke various systems in the game. The PC version got fixes for those as soon as they were ready, the console versions had to wait weeks for the expansion release to get the fixes because Zenimax were already in the process of getting the expansion certified and were not allowed to submit additional updates to go through first. GW2 normally gets scheduled updates every 2 weeks or so and usually has bug fixes and other patches in between those. It would be expensive and difficult for Anet to keep to their schedule while getting everything certified. If there was a console version either it would have to lag behind the PC version (which would probably make cross-play impossible) or they'd have to hold back PC releases until the console version is approved and everyone gets slower updates. As I said I'm not criticising the certification process here because I think there are benefits to having that, but I don't think it was ever intended to support a game like GW2 and it wouldn't be practical to try.
Dajas.4715
Well on a sad note I realise gw2 is not on steam anyway. But its always a possibility down the line? And as for "toxic fans" whats that got to do with what platform you play it on? The point is more possibilities are opening on consoles now. Nc are even remaking mmos for for both pc and console so you can see the direction they want to take since they rebranded. Honestly I think it would be a great move, specially as they are now thinking long turm for this game.
The Greyhawk.9107
I am inclined to think that the issue that Danikat brings up about the certification process the consoles would require for all updates would alone all but kill any chance of GW2 going on console.

If you tale into account every game ever on all systems, PC has by far the most exclusives. Even the games that were once exclusive to consoles are no longer that because of emulators. You can play any console exclusives on a PC up to the most recent generations (did they make a PS3 emulator yet?). So taking all of that into account consoles have the least exclusives. I for one don't really care because I've never owned a console and never will, they just seem pointless to me and I dislike a lot of the stuff they do. I understand why they do exclusives, no one would buy a console if it had non after all, but therein lies the problem doesn't it? In any case, I don't think GW2 needs a next gen anything, just to be optimised for as many systems as possible. In a perfect world that would include consoles, but i highly doubt Anet has the manpower to port anything to consoles, let alone do a next gen engine and redo the entire game in it. Besides... The point of the MMO is that many people need to play it... Next gen means only peoe with a 3090 will be able to play it. Meaning the game dies and all that next gen money they spent to tart it up got them nowhere. Just keep the game where it is and just optimise it, o need for next gen shenanigans.
