Next Mini Season: Stronghold

If you say no, can you explain why 2 weeks of Stronghold ranked couldn't possibly be a good thing?

 

 

I think just by being something different that you don't normally do can just lightly refresh the game.

 

Or, maybe it will be like eating a food your mom always made you eat as a kid, and you will remember why you hate it.

Stronghold becomes horribly unbalanced when played "seriously". There are multiple game-breaking strategies in it to cheese the format, such as:

 

-Play a PvE DPS ele build and sit behind your teams gate, you can AoE oneshot just about all NPCs before they do any damage and there is nothing anyone can do to stop you.

 

-Stack your entire team with support and just make it so your guards never die and you have max stab-spam to ensure your team gets every hero-pick, then win the match by letting the timer run down. 

 

-Similar strategy as above but half support half-ganksquad. They can still kill your guards, but 2-3 support is plenty enough to ensure your Lord can't die. Ganksquad runs around farming picks for points. Win the match by letting the timer run down.

 

TL;DR Stronghold is just for fun. It's a flawed design for serious play because only NPCs can actually take objectives, and thus builds centered around exploiting NPCs can just farm score and win by default by intentionally drawing out the match until the timer is over.

also the mechanics are bad. forcing players to run back and forth for supply like hamsters on a wheel is really boring. the bombers die too easy. the heroes are op. the guards and archers are useless. the trebs are useless mostly cuz they're never alive (can't remember how much damage they do to gates). i think the map could benefit from an 8v8 format as well, there are so many places to be that the game can take too long when forces are spread out too far and everyone is essentially doing 1v1s.

Well, how about a discussion on how it could be fixed.

 

Nothing else to do but flame necros.

I would suggest, and it is not an all inclusive list:

 

Buff the guards to be champions but with double health, and players can heal or support their own guards.

 

Give the skritt much much higher health and armor, but the guards can still one-shot them.

 

Give the tengu higher health, armor and damage, and let them do double damage and attack speed to players.

 

Increase the depth of the gates so that aoe can not reach through to the other side.

 

Increase the lords health and damage so that it is practically impossible to solo.

 

Add flags that can be moved by either side of players in each keep, that must be placed in the area of the lord before players can support, and also must be moved when the lord moves, (the area is the only way he can be supported).

 

Increase the health of doors, but add a third supply (*consumable) option that allows players to damage the door themselves for a period, but they can not damage guards, and take +15% all damage types when within 600 units of the enemy gate.

 

Players will do less damage to gates when further away.

 

 

 

It just needs some polishing, and fixes.

 

I think a rotating entrance into the mini seasons will give old and new players a chance to experience it more, earn rewards, and consider feedback to give.

 

I believe it has a lot of potential.

 

 

(Also, 2 v 2, and 3 v 3 are just for "fun")

I'd love for ANet to try and make Stronghold work one more time.  I feel like the game mode can work, but they just need to adjust it to de-incetivize pure zerg strategies, which broke it right before ANet abandoned the game mode.

 

If they did something like that, sure, a mini season of Stronghold would be a nice change of pace.  Might get a little stale with just one map though.

Stronghold should've been developed more/reworked after the drop tbh.    Minion spawning should be automated via timed intervals , replace supplies with buffs to minions, since people already fight over hero spawns.  The game mode should be focusing on fighting via defending/pushing the enemies base instead of  constantly trying to mount a offensive with a supply mechanic that really drags the game pacing through the dirt. Not only that but it should make the choices up to the players/team between getting temporary buffs to minions, continue pushing, defending, or fighting over the hero spawns.

Everything is better than 2v2, 3v3 ... nec war. 

Lets play the forgotten stronghold, why not.

I mean it would be about as balanced as 2v2 or 3v3... so why not. Give some unique title/reward so that people actually go in to play it, so that all the flaws and design problems are just shoved in their face.
Then actually read the incoming criticism on forums and redesign/rebalance the mode into something that works.

Stronghold probably should have been more WvW thing but with clear end goal and more people, we even have mount now for WvW pretty monetizable like the other games, but they tried to make it Moba thing to get on the gravy train,  without making the stuff that make Moba games good. They could have went with HOTS design, destroyable building special events, bosses what not, but they slapped together some basic stuff and went where lambo , and when people said that it is not fun they just dropped it without development, NEXT PROJECT.  
It is funny because they already have working PVP mode templates from the first Guild wars, but went nah lets reinvent the wheel for the 50th time.
