EoD is a $30 Patch.....

Recommended Posts

Expansions are literally big patches , they aren't separate games. If you don't like gw2 now odds are you probably won't like eod unless you're a diehard gw fan like me and will suffer through the Disney story just to see my favorite campaign in hd because if there's one thing anet kept from gw it's decent art.

When HoT came out people complained it wasn't worth $60 for 4 new zones, yet HoT remains one of the most popular areas in the game.  All the good features are done except for housing. The rest of it, as expansions go on in most games, is New Raids, New Creatures, New zones.   Cut and paste races in some cases. We get elite specs instead of classes.

People said how good HoT was because of meta events, zone design and complexity. HoT is still amazing. We don't know enough about the new expansion yet to judge, but I wouldn't judge it on new features. In fact, Anet said HoT was supposed to be the ground work, and future expansions would be about the content, without as many features.

People love quoting Anet until the quotes Anet provides go against what they're trying to say.

compare Anet's previous expansions with other mmos expansions. heart of thorns with wow's burning crusade or lich king, lotro's mines of moria, eso's morrowind or everquest or anything. it delivered good quality content like subscription based game and made other p2p f2p p2w mmos expansions look like a joke in comparison. so I'll give them the benefit of doubt here. maybe the game grew to much to leave little room for dramatic improvements or maybe not  I don't know. However, I have no doubt they'll deliver an amazing story, superior open world actions as they always do.

Wait until they reveal more. I'm sold if they bring in naval combat or even bring a PK system like archeage has.

There's no need to make them pact commander. They could have their own personal story that takes place in Cantha, and when you complete that story, you get to travel to Tyria.

oh so like let's make it into GW2 campaign 2.....

You must have missed the memo on why they stopped doing gw1 campaigns and created gw2 in the first place.

Their big features are a mount.....you know....something we've had multiple times in a patch already......

A skiff....something that already exists as mount...this isn't a new feature.

And, Fishing.....something that is literally a patch....about as big and feature heavy as our sitting in chairs patch.

I remember being similarly underwhelmed back when they did the first reveal for PoF. Mounts was something a lot of other games had, and it didn't look exciting to me at all.

Boy was I wrong 🙂.

I dont get how people completely ignore elite specs as a major feature. You are practically getting 9 new classes. The entitlement in thinking you somehow deserve more or think there should be another game changing feature is pretty sad.

So elite spec have at least few weapon choices, 5 traitlines and 20 utility skills+5 elite/heal skills? Glad to know. Anet did really step up on this one!

As far as we can see the expansion will likely bring 9 new trait lines, 9 new heal skills, 27-36 new utilities and 9 new ultimates, along with a chance at 9 new sets of weapon skills (2-5 skills per set). That definitely is more than I would expect of the one new class some other games' expansions deliver (if they give a new class at all, which many didn't in recent years), plus we get the added bonus of being able to mix all those new skills and traits with a variety of existing ones to come up with even more interesting builds.

Fishing does seem a bit "underwhelming" for a spotlight spot. However, I guess we really know very little about how fishing will work, so I will hold actual criticism until we do.

Battle mounts and basically two "team" mounts is also pretty interesting.

GW2 when it implemented mounts, could have just did what other MMOs did, something to ride that speeds up travel from point A to point B. GW2 knocked it out of the park. I find it super strange, but maybe fishing, etc., will be a similar kind of creativity that will surpass our existing schema for "MMO fishing".

Still excited about elite specs. Also, I am looking forward to the story and new lands (probably my favorite part of GW2) anyway. So yeah, $30 is definitely worth it to me. Most likely all those complaining now will buy it anyway. There's many more expensive "diversions" in the world that I don't think it is overpriced, even if it doesn't meet my expectations. But I hope that it will pleasantly surprise me. I feel we really don't know much of anything yet.

For the game to be expanded on.....that's the point of an "Expansion"

Not 20 minutes worth of content in fishing and an already existing mount...now in boat form....

How is it already existing?

You can walk around on the skiff, use it on the sea, take other players with you,  go on the skiff and fish, and maybe more, as they called it a home away from home?

Nothing like the other mounts?

People leaving WoW in mass and multiple new MMO's coming out, GW2 needed to deliver a reason to come to our game...instead they told everyone to steer clear because they charge expansion prices for patch content.

What were they thinking?

Also, it's true, there could be tons more they are holding back on....but if this is the case then they need a new Marketing Director. Whoever did the PoF reveal needs to be brought back. Otherwise, there just isn't enough content here to warrant a full expansion and the price that comes with.

agree 100%.
and if this is a marketing strategy,(I think is not) they failed it big time and they now should do damage control.
The people that will lose faith now will not listen later... I ave friends that just unfollowed the gw2 facebook page because they don't care anymore after this sneak peak...that's how bad that is...

HoT is also still quite populated in wow the current expansion every zone feels completely dead while in here people still do activities in areas that are now almost decade old.

Skiffs can carry more than one player and fishing will bring some more events and contests... I can't recall a chair sitting event thoug...

He mentioned 9 new classes. So id like to see where are those 9 new classes at. Altered profession mechanic with one traitline and 1 weapon is not something i definite as a new class. Its just extension of existing classes

I see, you're talking semantics here, instead of looking at what will actually be added. 9 elite specs are not a new class if you look at it that way, but I'd go out on a limb and say that for the majority of players that enjoy playing new classes, 9 new ways to play and the sheer number of new traits and skills to play around with actually outshine a single new class by a pretty far margin.

This does not undermine EoD as an expansion but rather shows what awesome patches Anet had put out during LS4.

Coop mount and fishing has been on the radar for ages, plus we get 5 maps, 5 masteries and 9 new e-specs.

30 dollars is more than justified.

It was not the best expansion first look, but is not that bad either. The 9 elite specs and Cantha itself are already good enough for an expansion, even if it's just the bare minimum.

Fishing & skiffs are a welcome addition, but not something worth of being the expansion spotlight. The siege turtle still has to be seen, specially in terms of utility. Sure, you could consider each of these features patch content, but they all come together, so it just adds to that bare minimum. And everything else, guildhalls and strikes, just keeps adding.

Is still too early to judge in terms of quality, but in terms of quantity we got enough, even if none of it is a big shiny selling point.

They didn't miss it ... they ignored it so they could sensationalize things they didn't like into "not an expansion" rant. It's OK though, they don't have to buy it if they want to judge based on a 30 minute reveal ... exactly like how I would expect ignorant people to act.

9 Brand new class mechanics, 9 new traitlines with new synergies between skills and new weapons. New utilites, new group roles & playstyles. As i said before, they are practically new classes.

These are the exact same people who think they know everything to improve GW2. They deliberately miss out on the fact that Cantha is an entirely new continent to GW2. All they think about is muh mekanikz

Just wait for the sale. Buying expansion right on release or pre-ordering it isn't a good idea either even if it was cheap. You might not like it so it's best to see other players play it first and check feedback, then wait for a few months for it to go on sale and buy it.

You get new maps, masteries and specialisations and future LW content will be based on this expansion for a while.

You cannnot get everything for free here. GW2 already is a lot more affordable than many subscription MMOs out there where you can pay for expansions, game time and cash shop items separately. Well, here we just have the paid expansions and the cash shop. Time is free to you and so are many LW releases and feature updates like the upcoming WvW alliances and DX11 support.
