because maps and story aren't exclusive to patches. They are ALSO part of expansions. It's disingenuous to say this isn't an expansion because patches CAN include maps and story content.

Bruh, the only thing GW2 did different is make each mount function a certain way whereas MANY MMORPGs literally offer mount systems where a single mount does everything.

 

It ain't that big of an innovation, it's literally why people hated the mount system originally. If you think the mount system alone is a Praise the Gods system, you're beyond help kek

At the moment they announced mounts, you had no information about it, so by your own standards you should have been crying about them adding "something that's in other mmorpgs". How you fail to understand the fact you try to judge things you have no information about, while at the same time you write what you did above about mounts?

But we still saw the mounts doing things that we knew would change the game. We saw the Jakal blinking, the springer jumping, the raptor jumping....so far all we've seen from the skiff is....it floats...and you can walk on it.

OK ... but that doesn't mean it DOESN'T do those 'change the game' things that has resulted in you jumping to the conclusion that EoD is just worth a $30 patch. IN fact, you know almost NOTHING about it ... and it's pretty disingenuous to think that something Anet is going to dedicate a mastery line to will 'just float and hold people'. You know, there isn't anything wrong with just admitting you didn't like the reveal, but it is absurd to conclude simply based on that reveal EoD isn't an 'expansion' release. 

 

Not to mention the continuous implication that it's 'patch' level because it has maps and story. Give your head a shake there. Expansions also include maps and story and SIGNIFICANTLY more than any LS patch would ever deliver.

Why would you assume that's how these reveals would be structured? See, that's the thing, Anet doesn't need to sell you on first impression ... we are already players. Don't assume things are marketed to you as a player are the same as how they are marketed to you if you aren't.

It makes no difference if you are marketing to new players or existing players.  You put your best foot forward regardless of your target audience, ergo, we have likely seen the best EOD has to offer.

EoD version of this would be the video that came out like 10 months ago with "What a lifetime means, what an ending means" (cool line).

Sure, but that's not what we were talking about here. No one is debating putting your 'good foot forward' isn't a good idea. Whatever 'good feet' you think were or were not put forward has nothing to do with how you market to new vs. existing players.

ANet doesn't get an either/or in this situation.  They can't just afford to appeal to new players and ignore existing players.  Just like they can't ignore new players in lieu of existing ones.  They have to satisfy both parties.  They seemingly failed to satisfy or make a good impression with the existing playerbase with this first look.  And I can't imagine any new player is suddenly going to rush to GW2 because of fishing and multi-person mounts.

OK, but you have nothing that tells you that's what Anet did here or this was the result. Just saying it doesn't make it true. Sounds to me like you're another one of those people that convince themselves of something just to take issue with it. Again, Anet does not need to satisfy new and existing players with the same marketing materials. That's nonsense. That's something you are inventing to make whatever your point is.
