A much simpler solution that what I went with haha.

Although I must admit I do love the idea of an element specialist ^^
Back in Gw1 I based all my Ele characters and Hero builds around a single element but in Gw2 this is a really inefficient way to play the class.

I have a few problems with the idea of less elemental attunements.

First, it will make arcane traitline much less useful. Half the traits give boons on attunement swap or have effects for each attunement, some of those with an ICD per attunement. Going with single or double attunement will pretty much half the benefits of those traits, some of which are minor, and therefore not optional. Less attunements also means less attunement swaps, so much less buffs from arcane traitline.

Weapon skills will have to change drastically. Currently you use a few skills in an attunement and then swap out of it or overload. Reducing the attunements to swap into for new skills without changing core skills will make it that weapon swap will be needed not to deal with changes in the fight (ranged/melee/offense/defense) but to have enough skills to enable you to do anything besides auto attack. Basically you'll be in a fight with your skills in CD, your only other attunement in CD, and you will either have to weapon swap to have something to use or conjure weapons to fill the gap.

I think that if ele gets weapon swap it will have to loose all individual attunement skills, with attunements just giving bonuses to skills (as mentioned on the linked post).

It might sound too far off, but they got rid of mesmer clones, they might get rid of ele attunements, but in a way that there is still a swap (just no unique skills for each attunement).

If weapon swap counts as an attunement swap, then you still get full benefits from arcane trait line and weapon swap traits. Let's say that you take fire and air as your attunements, leaving out earth and water.

Then this means that you won't get the attunement swap boni from earth and water, but you can proc the swap boni from fire and air more than once with the additional weapon swap.

Abandoning attunements entirely doesn't seem like a viable option. For all core elementalist weapons, there are 4 distinct weapon sets, one for each attunement. If you want to abandon attunements in the way you described, then this means that you delete 3 of the 4 sets, with one of them just getting adjustments in the way of additional boni based on the element you have currently chosen.

I think the "weapon swap + just 2 attunements available" is a more viable way here.

Agreed, I think the weapon swap would have to count like an attunement swap in this regard.

Although I don't think it would have to be two attunements.
We were talking about the idea of doubling up on elements instead of just having the one.
What if you could still swap between say the two fire attunements to trigger the swapping bonus but it would simply function more like a burst mode.
Skills stay the same but you get a temporary boost to your damage and cooldowns etc

With something like that and the weapon swap Ele should still have access to all the benefits from attunement swapping with exception to the element specific boons etc
You'd just have to manage them differently.
Instead of 4 attunment cooldowns you have 2 and a weapon swap CD instead.
Or just 1 element + weapon swap and a burst mode that can help you reduce CD etc

Why you think rev will be the third?

Wouldn't it make more sense to show all 3 light classes together?

Because anet hates ele and they are scared to show just how little work they did or rework they put into the ele class. I see it being the LAST elite spec at this point.

Sry to bring this back up they its needed at some level to do so. By no means i am happy about this too i need to add.

The icons are going to be more then likely (i could be comply wrong) base off of order:

Mez, Ranger, Gurad, Ele, Thf, Rev, Necro, Eng , and last war

Not happly about the randomness of anet putting out eleit spec.

The flame icon being ele is way too obvious i think the magic bullet is more likely with rifle weapon shooting element imbued bullets depending on attunement. but this is just a hope i have cause i really don't want to see another melee weapon on ele.

This. Give us that Spellslinger!

Wait a minute, I don't think the symbol the OP suggested would be the Elementalist's.

Let me introduce to my interpretation of the symbols from what I know.

Here are the new Elite Spec icons: xbzon8xixsd71.png (731×297) (redd.it)

From left to right:

1 Mesmer (Virtuoso, Dagger) - 2 Ranger (Warden) - 3 Guardian (S/S) - 4 Elementalist (Torch) - 5 Thief (S/S) - 6 Revenant (Ritualist D/D) -

7 Warrior (Pistol) - 8 Engineer - 9 Necromancer (Pistol)

It's quite likely we could get longbow Ele this exp

I my opinion we are getting rifle. Please follow my logic.

From left to right

1 – Mesmer – already confirmed

2 – Ranger (some kind of animal) – beast master maybe?

3 – Guardian – If you passed in photoshop the new elite spec pic and high up exposure, the result is clearly a heavy armor with a blue eye, so its seems is a guardian. The three diamonds between swords represents Guardians' unique abilities - Virtues. And they have three of them – make sens.

4 – Thief – why thief? Because in the icone we can see initiative. I thought that maybe ele is getting thief’s mechanic but I doesn’t make sense. Initiatives will not work with cast abilities. There are design for instant spammable skills. How can you imagine spamming OH dagger earth skill 5? Also initiatives are mechanic exclusive to thieves – adding other profession's mechanics to other classes would make ppl argue which implementation is better for which class - and it makes mechanic not unique anymore. Torch would be actually very weird for ele. Torch represents fire and thematically it would be hard to implement this concept to water, air and earth attunements. Thief would benefit from torch   - i can see it as arsonist.

5 – Warrior (samurai wibe here)

6 - Revenant – we can clearly see rev core symbol in new design

7 – We have some options here so let’s discuss them.

Ranger – they will get second icon because there is animal in it and only rangers are associated with wild life.

Engineer- they have already rifle and pistols.

Necro – In the new pic we can see around asura’s belt some potions. Also if you will look closely at his left hand – there is also a potion. Alchemy will thematically work very well with dark magic.

Ele – we wanted for long time to get 2h weapon. What options do we have?

Staff - we already have it

GS – we already have it as conjury weapon

Hammer – same story as GS

Bow – we have conjure frost bow. it is hard to tell if it is a long bow or short bow. Anyway it will make ppl confused in pvp what bow are you wielding – conjured or not.

Rifle – it is actuality the only 2h weapon available for us. Also it is single target and long range – this is what ppl wanted for ele. Dual pistols would work as well (look at legendary hope, it is so magical)

8 – Engi – Some kind of iron man suit. Before I thought it is guardian but as stated earlier the new picture of elite spec changed my mind.

9 – Necro- as stated above necro picture has potions all around him it make more sense to give it to necro than to engi. Engineer has already alchemy line, potions as a abilities, grenades and bombs. Also thematically alchemy matches more dark magic than for instans ele magic.

Sorry for errors. English is my second language but I hope you will understand my logic.

Firstly that's the symbol i suggested to begin with, check the first post again.

Secondly, torch is a really boring unviable choice of  a weapon on a class that lacks any good, viable main-hand weapon.

Also it doesn't fit thematically since eles dont need torch, because they can create fire whenever they want.

After a few analysis I changed my mind on the icon, that's why I edited my previous post. Honestly I agree with you on that because the GW1 elementalist icon shares similarities with the EoD one. It makes perfect sense now. I wouldn't be happy with torch either, but who knows? We can only speculate and expect everything to happen from Anet.

I have always wanted Longbow on Ele. We can only wait and see.

Now that necro has shown to be the potion/bomb symbol the only classes that don't have rifles and could be the symbol are ranger, elementalist, and revenant.  The little swirl around it makes it look like some type of magic is speeding it up( like wind) so I think it's gotta be Ele.

The "fire" effect seems to be the main aim for ele icons. Tempest was a whearl i guess repenting storm (did not play like a storm lol) and the more lighting bolt fire like for weaver i guess was for faster cd and swaps?

The fire (or super sayen) icon looks more like fire uncontrolled maybe we will see a ele that can over due its spells or some how use spells that are too powerful to comply control. There is a LOT of magic in the world in the current state of the story for the expansion how eles have not lost there minds with power is beyond me or a massive plot hole!

But like tempest and weaver on some level i think the ideal of the elite spec will be far more then what the elite spec ele getting in EoD. A lot of words but a lack of uniqueness and substances.

I used to think it was the flame symbol for being too obvious, but I have a different opinion now.

Most of the "obvious" icons didn't turn out to be that obvious so far, especially because there seems to be a very clear cross-class theme there. Necros got the Engineer-like icon. Guardians got the Thief-like icon. Mesmer's one is also very Thief-like.

However, all of them have had subtler clues about their profession before the color was revealed. 3 daggers is probably the less obvious one (= the 3 clones it replaces, even though, in reality, their spec mechanic stacks up to 5 blades, not 3). The icon for crossed swords has 3 symbols that we can now safely assume that they represent the 3 Guardian's virtues. And the potion icon always looked poisoned or evil.

This makes me think that the flame icon is not Elementalist's, but another profession with a cross-class Elementalist flavor for its spec. And with Thief's initiative symbol there. Hmmmm.

The guard dule sword have initiative like symbol but it was still a gurd why not say ele is getting the thf like initiative symbol? Its odd that every thing so far the 3 we have now as of 8/12/21 are thf like classes. So why not have a thf like ele.

Really hoping we get rifle or they surprise us and we get 2 pistols! We already have 2 elite specs that offered either a main or off hand choice. Its time we get a 2h weapon that replaces staff or dual weapons that have abilities that compliment eachother or can be standalone with our other mediocre base weapons.

And here they are side by side God of Elementalist

An elite spec themed around the god of war that wields Greatsword. SO EPIC.(so epic that we know it wont happen cause Anet...😩)

On reading about the obsidian flame, i am convinced the icon is for thief. Looks like we will get rifle or pistol.

The bullet doesnt look like its wind magic, it looks like its signifying that the bullet is spinning. The spinning would be from rifling of the barrel which is for accuracy over distance so to me it would mean rifle.

The flame icon doesnt really look like a flame to me either, nor does it look like an arrow on fire. It looks like a gem surrounded by crystals just from the shading. Those are really the only 2 icons that look like they would be for the elementalist.
