How to apply a second rune?

Recommended Posts

If there are 2 upgrade slots, you first have to hightlight (click on) the slot you wish to apply a second upgrade to.

[edit] Wait, you said rune. Armor only holds 1 rune. Is it a 2-hander weapon? They have 2 sigil slots.

Glad it worked. If you haven't figured it out yet, applying the same rune to different armor pieces is how you unlock the bonuses listed on the runes. Just note that the limit is what is shown on the runes: 2 of the same rune for minor, 4 for major. Pick other runes for the other armor pieces (2 pairs x 3 for minors, 4x major rune + 2x minor rune... or just don't bother with it while leveling up.)

OK, I finally got it, if it has only one you can't apply a second one. But if it has another type of rune you can replace it with 2. Thank you 🙂

That doesn't sound right. Armor pieces can hold only one rune per piece. There is no second rune slot. Ascended and legendary armor pieces can hold an infusion in addition to the rune.

If you were referring to two-handed weapons: they do not hold runes but sigils.

Each armour piece can only hold 1 rune. Ascended armour can also hold infusions so it will have an additional upgrade slot, but there is no way to put a rune into an infusion slot (or an infusion into a rune slot).

What you're probably seeing is the set bonuses on the runes themselves. You know how some games give you bonuses if you wear multiple pieces of the same type of armour? GW2 does that with runes rather than built-in bonuses (so you have more freedom to mix and match pieces).

Each rune will list 2, 4 or 6 effects. If you equip 1 rune of that type you get the first effect. If you equip a second rune in a second armour piece you get the second effect as well. For major runes you can equip a 3rd and 4th and superior runes allow up to 6, but each one has to be on a different armour piece. (So to get all the bonuses from superior runes you have to have the same rune in each armour piece you're wearing.)

You can of course mix and match different sets of runes if you want to (for example equipping 3 from one set and 3 from another to get the first 3 bonuses from each) but usually the effects get stronger as you add more runes so it's rare that it's worth doing that.
