What makes what you linked a trailer and the EoD trailer not one? Because if it has something to do with the GW1 using CGI out-of-engine models and animation, before GW2 was even released Anet said that they were going to stick with artistic (aka painterly) and/or in-game trailers and cut scenes so that players can expect to get what they see when they play the game.

 

Also it's really a matter of taste. I'll take 2 minutes of dialogue with less action over 2 minutes of yelling and grunting for what ends up looking extremely generic—the latter of which I wouldn't even bother looking into whatever it was they were trying to get me interested enough in to buy.

 

It may not have as much action but EoD's trailer shows the world, characters, gives some lore and story tidbits, and tells you some of the features in the expansion, things a lot of prospective new and returning players care more about than a random snippet that has no context even if it's a fancy snippet.

 

If you prefer the Factions one, you do you, but EoD's does the job of a trailer (specifically to hype, inform, and sell a product, especially to new customers) better. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not a trailer.

What the heck is a first look trailer? It literally says trailer on the video description on anets gw2 YouTube profile idk how that is being picky. Never seen an mmo release multiple trailers for an expansion I guess anet is so groundbreaking they're going to do a series of crappy trailers instead of just one?

 

@Zephire.80492 minutes of cringe dialogue is far inferior to the alpha Chad og cantha trailer , sad that gw went from being bad kitten to disney

It means there will be more released later. The expack isn't even launching until Februrary of next year.

Semantics aside, I can't say I was particularly impressed with this trailer either, it lacked substance to me, I mean we still don't know why we're going to Cantha story wise other than "something something Aurene and Kunavanng".  We went into the previous two Expacks with a fair bit more than that.

I think this trailer fails to hype, considering what we can read on the forum. 

 

I actually rarely seen so much disappointment after that kind of announcement in any game.

Prob my only negative. This expansion feels less organic than the others. We knew why we were going to Maguuma and Elona but here it feels a little forced due to the way icebrood saga fell flat

 

Otherwise it was a fairly standard GW2 trailer. Nothing to really complain about and I’m sure we will get more
