Game client can't connect to the game

Ever since the previous patch me and my boyfriend have been experiencing some weird behavior with the client. We click on the icon to start it and it stays on "Downloading 0kb (0kb/sec)" forever. At times we get a different message saying that it can't connect due to "Connection error(s) detected. Retrying... " The thing is, my internet and his, are working just fine, no issues trying to log on any other game than GW2, playing videos, or anything else. Sometimes if we restart the computer, the client works, but if we log off for whatever reason and try to reconnect we get the same problem again. But most times even restarting the computer doesn't work and we get stuck on the Downloading and Connection error loop. Is someone else experiencing this?
