Settled on Theif!

So I preordered the expansion and was tasked with picking a “main,” to get the boost (I’ve played  my guardian up till level 68 so I don’t think I’ll miss much in terms of learning the game.)

 

My question is simple; I Looooove pvp and love the unique play style of the theif; specifically the Daredevil. Are they viable for endgame content, like, Will I be able to participate in end game content? I come from WoW and am all too familiar with having a class and spec I love, that no one wants in their raid.

 

side question; Do I even need to raid to get the best gear in the game or can that be achieved via pvp?

Everything can be acquired by only playing PvP based game modes.

 

In regards to the legendaries (which are essentially just QoL):

 

The accessories require a little bit of PvE but everything else can be acquired through the two PvP based game modes.

Thief, and especially Daredevil is very viable in end-game content. 
 

The structured PvP (sPvP) is what you will find closest to arenas from WoW. In sPvP all gear is normalized as you use amulets to select your stats. This means that in sPvP everyone is on the same playing field. Skill is what matters as gear (ilvl) isn’t a thing. 
 

In World vs World your gear matters.

 

You can get all gear pieces from all parts of the game. So play what content you enjoy and have fun 😊

For PvE

 

In story and open world Daredevil is really good, high survival through dodge spam + Invigorating Precision + and high damage with Staff #1, #2 and #5. 

 

For raids and fractals it simply works, but your rotation requieres you to manage your dodges very well so it can be tricky.

 

For WvW and PvP it definitely works, I've been using core and deadeye for months but after playing Daredevil for a few weeks I'll probably never go back to those.

You'd need to raid if you want specific skins even if best in slot stats can be accumulated in most game modes. Daredevil feels natural to play and maybe in large part because the dodges are fluid chaining with or in a combination or sequence with some skills. You'll want to play all of the builds some though or you'll constantly change back to Drd.
