Make a new wvw map and allow skiffs in wvw

Recommended Posts

Man there are ideas that really come along with this boating thing.

Make a new blue borderland with a moderate water presence, allow both fishing and boating. River paths that allow fast movement through water, aquatic veterans, camps inside small islands.

Make a new boating wvw mastery that allows transporting players, fighting enemy boats, building small weapons on it.

Boats have superiority against underwater, drop poison under the boat for diving enemies,

Boats are vulnerable to siege and attacks from land and can be destroyed.

It could even be a thing built with supplies just like any other siege.

And add the siege turtle to WvW.

Player 1 summons boat & drives it
Player 2-50 summons Siege Turtle that has cannons & stacks them 'on' a boat
Mobile Laser-beam Carrier/Destroyer confirmed 🚢!! 🤣 *joke

Would they need balancing in combat? Maybe for example:

Juggernaut counters -> Siege Turtles

Siege Turtles counters -> Skiff boats

Skiff boats counters ->  Juggernaut?

Airships counters (does heavy damage to) -> both Juggernaut and Siege Turtles?

What about the existing arrow carts, catapults, trebuchets and golems?

Thoughts? 😊

I'm very curious about whether skiffs will work in combat (besides the work around mentioned above of putting a siege turtle on top of a boat) and if so how they could be incorporated into WvW. I can see both siege turtles and skiffs working as mobile siege, possibly even with different types of siege. I know the turtles in GW1 only had cannons, but I bet you could mount a trebuchet or catapult on a turtle and you could definitely put one on a boat.

But a water map with teams of players in skiffs could be very interesting too. I know new maps in WvW have been controversial in the past, but the Desert Borderlands is my personal favourite, because of all the new mechanics it introduces, and I think a Cantha themed map built to accomodate skiffs and turtles could be a lot of fun.

Someone in a different thread raised an interesting point:

flood the middle of the desert borderlands but keep some bloodlust capture points on the surface.

It's a cheap and easy way to get space for skiff warfare... who knows, people might even start enjoying that map.

I was thinking about that the other day about flooding the alpine and desert maps. If you flood desert it most likely would flood fire keep, since there's entrances to go down there from the middle, they would probably have to extend the outer walls in there or something. The on alpines you have bay would definitely get flooded down unless they setup a dam or something for the outer middle area.

Would be cool if the game had a weather system that affected the map that way, when it pours and then floods areas, some more randomness to add to the map.

I had suggested making Desert a water map some time ago, but had no idea they would add anything like skiffs. I was only thinking of having some kind of gimmick rafts and platforms on rails or something. Boarding each other would be a lot of fun and I love underwater combat.
