Returning player wvw/pvp questions

Hello, 

I used to play spvp exclusively for a few years back in the early days and I’ve recently returned with the intent to play wvw with some spvp.  I’ve tried leveling a few characters by doing pve things/story and I get incredibly bored after about 20 minutes and find myself running back to spvp.  This brings me to the questions / help I seek below.

 

1. what’s a good over all profession for wvw?  What I mean is what’s a good profession that has good solo roaming and zerging builds?  Clearly the thief is not suitable for zerging but is great at solo roaming.  
 

2. Seeing as I have no attention span for pve, can I improve my gear (asecended, legendary) with just wvw/pvp and crafting?  I’ve looked around for guides on gearing for wvw and there’s so much information that my eyes just glaze over after 3 pages of reading.  
 

I realize that I’m trying to learn a 10 year old game really quickly and there are so many systems and paths in place it can seem and feel ultra bloated and daunting.  I’m just looking for a breakdown on the path I want to take.

Guardian is strong across the board. With elite specs, so is Thief: Deadeye is strong 1v1 as well as in zergs, and you can quickly preset your builds to chanage for the occasion. 

 

You will need to be 80 for WvW. The way you scale for it is broken. 

They added stuff the other year i think that allows you to gear up through WvW/PvP. It'd be pretty slow though. You'll really want to get exotics across the board before going into WvW. 

PvP of course doesn't matter, as all your stats comes from a free, swappable amulet.
