Selfie Mode

Then turn your camera around and zoom how you like then snap picture?

Why would you need to do it after?

Hiding the ui is not a camera mode.  FFXIV's got thousands of people mass producing high quality glamour shots as free advertising with their /gpose feature.  You cannot get these idealized glamour shots by simply hiding the ui.  Honestly think this would be the best free feature anet could add to the game.

Addition to FF14 reply, BDO has also nice selfie mode with free camera movement, tilt and effects.

Generally speaking If you don't limit yourselves only into Gw2, there are alot of nicer things that Gw2 can and should have when you look at what other games do and offer.

Also: I'd rather have Anet spend resources on something else.

Fair  point, but I would guess that the dev who does this, have nothing to do with any game mode we have now. It would be anet hire someone especially for that.

Even then.
Why not hire someone to fix some bugs? Why not hire someone to take a look at PvP? Why not hire someone to fix revenands interaction with templates? Why not hire someone to improve on existing content like dungeons/raids/strikes/whatever? Why not hire someone to help out with alliances? Why not hire someone who will make the DX11 implementation better? Why not hire someone [to make something else that might be a bit more important/impactful/interesting than just a better screencap feature]?

To not derail too much they already have those people to fix those things, but as u said they rather spend their resources on other things, or they're fixing bugs all the time, just not as the speed u want.

Screenshots are free advertising for the game, they create interest in how it would be to play it

I would love a photo mode, don't really care for the "selfie" presentation but if that's part of it then that's fine. I also wish the game would let you zoom in a lot more during normal gameplay. It's really noticeable how hard it is to take great screenshots in gw2, logging in after having played BDO and final fantasy for a while.

I didn't realise this had been introduced to other MMOs already, it's something I mainly associate with PS4 games because that's where I've encountered it most.

I don't think it would be as useful or interesting as in single player games because you couldn't pause everything around you and probably couldn't customise effects to the same extent. In single-player games you can go into photo mode during combat - for example right at the moment your big attack hits - and everything is frozen while you line the camera up just right, change the lighting, add/remove effects, even change your character's clothing or expression - so you can get the perfect screenshot without planning it in advance.

Obviously it would be a terrible idea to give players in an MMO the ability to pause enemies or everything around them because that absolutely would be used for trolling (imagine getting a difficult bounty boss down to 5% then someone enters photo mode so you all freeze and they just...leave it there indefinitely).

But some options in addition to the ones we've already got could be useful, like the ability to freeze your character and any effects on them in a certain position. My current approach is to just mash the screenshot button for a few seconds and then sort through all the images for the one where everything lines up, but getting one where they're not blinking, facing the right way, the sparkly effects are sparkling but not too bright or obstructing something I want visible etc. can be difficult. Or maybe separate camera settings for photo mode so you can change things like the horizontal and vertical position, field of view and zoom sensitivity without having to put everything back to how you want it for actually playing afterwards.

Let me introduce you to /gpose!  You can freeze individual animations, pick emotes to use, apply effects and filters, play with lighting, hide unwanted characters, mess with field of view and depth of field, rotate the frame, and just so much more.  This system is so robust. (because it is a free marketing tool, they KEEP updating it)

Things still happen in real time around you, but you just don't see it on your screen. (You will get a message if you enter combat while in this mode) It works flawlessly in xiv, and it's honestly how I got a LOT of my friends hooked on the game lol (either by showing them cool screenshots, or, when they are in the trial, telling them "Hey, type /gpose" and watching them spend 3 hours playing with it)

I must just be old. Taking selfies in a game? Sure, in real life I get the appeal because it's a photo of... well, yourself. There is a market for this in the game world? I guess I won't judge it until I try it but it seems pointless to me at first thought.

I use em for wallpapers and backgrounds on my phone and computer. Gw2 isnt the worst screenshot game available, but sometimes i wish i could do a free camera command.(limited range around the player, not usable in pvp or wvw at all, or in combat in pve.)

I'm the reverse: I wonder why people take selfies IRL (since most of us are fugly). In games it makes more sense since you can pretend you're not ; - )

You know how a lot of people really enjoy collecting skins and customising their character in this game? Well when they've got a good look together they also like to take screenshots to remember it (later on, after they've changed to something else) and to show it off on fan sites. Back when we could post screenshots on this forum we had a few 'show us your character' threads going and they were quite popular.

Some people also like to take screenshots to remember personal achievements and milestones, but that might not benefit from a photo mode because a lot of them probably involve keeping the UI turned on.

Lotta games have this as a basic feature nowadays and I enjoy it very much. To take screenshots in GW2 I gotta pewp around with camera position in menu and then hopefully get it back to original position afterwards cuz it's a slider with no numbers for accuracy.

And yes ofc, FFXIV's version of it is intensely amazing and the best I've used. Even Fallout 76 was able to create a decent one I've taken tons of screens with and that games an embarassment in most ways.
