Kyric.5742
Yeah that is right, I was there when bell bottoms and tie dye was big. Heck, they were my favorite things to wear. I thought the only reason why my parents had kids was for us to change the channel on the tv. You know when wheels were actually square. (kidding) They were actually oval...doh. I am a dad and a Papa (Grandfather) and I play games with my kids and grandkids. My son moved across the country, so we decided to keep in touch daily by playing games. One day my son said "Hey dad, wow came out with a new expansion, we should play" So I went out and bought a computer, then quickly called my daughter over to show me how to use it....yikes that was not fun. Well the wow experience was not fun at all. Lasted less then a month. So my son said to try GW2. We all started by playing PVE and did the story modes. I got a level 80 boost and decided to level a Necro. Only because I thought I needed the help from my minions because I am bad. THEN my son said "Hey dad lets play PVP." Yeah, player vs player. My first game I was literally shaking because I got so nervous when people from other team came close. I had no idea how my character really worked. I had no idea how PVP worked. What to do and when to do map objectives. You see in PVE the people were friendly. They included you in things like trains and bounties. The mobs were easy and if you died to a mob or bounty, it didn't matter because the people came over to rez you. There was no real reason to learn your toon. But, now in PVP you have to know abilities, know your skills and how to counter, dodge and most of all be toxic in the game. Yeah that is right BE TOXIC. Your partners will not rez you, they will run by you and say "Get good loser!" Some of the other team will kill you and say "Man you're bad, uninstall" Or my favorite is this. "You guys all suck, I am going to afk in base so the game will end faster." Now that was the first few games into pvp. Yeah you guys are right, I should of researched on how to play a pvp game. I should of researched on how to play my character better. I should of learnt how to uninstall my game. Map chat in the pvp area is full of people complaining about the state of pvp now. How this needs to be nerfed, that needs to be nerfed and ANET doesn't care enough to change anything in pvp. The player base has dwindled down to nothing since 2015. Just on the first page in the pvp forums there are no less then 5 post on "Nerf Necros!" I will be totally honest with you. I do not have the knowledge to say nerf this or nerf that. I could really care less about stuff like that. I play to have fun. I play to chat with my son and grandkids. I do not play ranked because I do not want to spoil any game for another. I stay strictly in unrated pvp. I am not a good player and I think I am not a bad player. I do not think I am average, but below average. I try not to be something I am not. I have now played 500 games in pvp and here is what I believe is wrong with pvp. It is not the scourge or any other profession. Even though those thiefs and necros are a pain in the butt. It is the matchmaking and toxic behavior. I can in all honestly say 90% of the games are one sided. It is either 500-100 or 100-500. Not to often do you get into a game where it is close. You want new people to stay, let them play with people more their level. I would not mind waiting in que for another couple of minutes to get a more evenly matched game. I do not know how the match making is made but there has to be something better then this. Second the toxic behavior in game and in map chat is absolutely atrocious. PVE people help other people. PVP people trash people instead of actually helping. I play the game to have fun and to be a little competitive. (human nature) Not to be slandered and insulted continuously. I would like to say this is only happening to me, but it is not. It is in general chat, map chat and team chat in almost every game. Recently I have not had to experience this toxic bs personally but it still goes on in one way or another in most games. I belong to three guilds in this game and do chat with people in all three. I ask them why they don't like to pvp. Well 20% or a little bit more would pvp if they could handle the toxic behavior. I will admit most of the people in the guilds I join are 25 plus in age. You guys want more people to play pvp? Most important thing to do is to get the match making right. You elite people that sit in the mist map chat and que up together to as you say "Stomp noobs" is not helping you get more people into pvp. Second, stop with the toxic bullying. Help and encourage use bad people, us loser, us people that you want to uninstall. We will get better. We will learn our toons. I know I have. 2
Crab Fear.1624
Don't worry, this is just a ghost of the old pvp. It has long been dead, but you know things tend to persist and haunt the mists. Also, 50s year olds are pretty common in this game, and the 40-50 years have the most sway of what really goes down in this game. I make that assumption with confidence because of what is the core focus of this game, and not just PVE, but what is the focus in PVE and how it is presented. If the game is casual, it can't be competitive.
Swagg.9236
The elitism in GW2 spawned from the fact that the game is very shallow and homogenous at a fundamental level. The moment that the PvP community's delusion of "high level competition" was acknowledged with a couple of pity seasons in ESL, the few people who managed to scratch out a meager shred of renown from the experience clutched to it like Gollum to the One Ring. If you really set things level with reality, GW2 never had a PvP future going for it: it never provided any outlets for community contributions or customization, there was never any consistent development for new features or gamemodes, and the baseline game itself is just too darn simple. The worst attitudes in GW2 aren't necessarily out of spite or meanness; they're just the results of people trapped in the mirage of a "competitive, high-skill GW2 PvP experience," when in reality, there never was anything like that in the first place. It really is a case of "don't hate the player; hate the game." GW2 is too easy to play; the skill ceiling is super low, but unfortunately, accessing the base level of that skill floor is still difficult only because of how obtuse and esoteric everything about GW2 PvP is. GW2 is painfully easy to play, but to get to the point at which one can even play it at all, it's just this terrible drudgery of wading through skill text and passive effects until one realizes that the best build for any class is the same exact one: be passive; be reactive; stack up protracted damage/effect negation that can tick while you teleport to your target or attack with impunity. GW2 isn't hard to play, but it tries to pretend it is by making it awkward to read anything that's happening on the screen unless you dissect all of the passive/instant garbage ticking constantly during any given frame of combat. The people who have a bad attitude are desperate to hold up that façade, since it's the only thing keeping their egos intact. Ngl, in every competitive mode in life this is what it is. Losing sucks. If you have no winners and losers you don't have pvp you have some from of kitten PvE content that no one care's about which is exactly what we have. You know why people are complaining about pvp? Because i played 4 games yesterday and all 4 of them i saw the same faces. You know what that means? Every single pvp change that have made have been failure after failure. You've only started pvp'ing you don't know what we have lost. Its quite pretentious of you to say i don't have much experience and say you don't have enough knowledge then do a long winded response on how people should play and approach the game. Wow the gall. You can kindly kitten off and keep your opinion's till you can say your comfortable enough to give a valid detailed opinion based in experience and reason. Btw the so called elites are the only people left in pvp dispite the horrible pvp changes. Fleeting pve'ers who come in for dailies do not make a good pvp community and they do what you do cry and complain and add nothing to the dialogue. My god you people don't ever stop.
