New player question regarding kits

Hello, I am leveling an engineer and really enjoying it thus far. I am currently level 19 and I am following this leveling guide https://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Engineer_-_Leveling_Bomber#. 

 

The only thing I am not following is the bomb kit portion of that guide, I find bombs ruin the flow of what I enjoy about engineer so I swapped to grenade kit and flamethrower kit... In regards to kits, should I be using kits exclusively over the core rifle abilities? I find I enjoy the rifle abilities too but if you read the various guides some people claim not to even touch the core abilities, so they stick with kits. I just want to avoid the situation where I get so use to burning stuff down with my flame thrower or burning up packs of mobs with my F3 grenade ability, because its easy to do so, so far lol.

While leveling - you can do what you want - main goal is to enjoy it! Rotating in and out of kits to use main weapon skills (or holo forge if you go holo) for fractals/raids is more for maxing out dps as part of end game content. As far as open world and leveling at that, just do what feels good!

 

Typically, the core weapon skills are pretty weak (particularly the autos) so it’s only worth casting certain weapon skills and once their on cd, best to stay in kit.

Hello! Main Engineer here!

 

The guide you posted gives a basic Power build.

The objective of that build is to use Bomb AA (Skill 1), so you mostly camp on Bomb Kit, however it is still good for your DPS to swapto your rifle for your Skill 3 & 5, they are high DPS dealers, but after you use said abilities you go back to your bomb kit to spam AA.

 

It is a very easy build to play but it can certainly get boring, the reason behind being that is because our core weapons (Rifle & Pistols) have a very underwhelming AA.
