Question about shared inventory slots, the order in which they unlock ..

Recommended Posts

When using multiple windows (like inventory, bank, merchant) opened with the default width of the inventory (4 wide) the order in which the shared slots unlock is important to me. The lowest row of slots are the most commonly used slots. With the inventory scrolled down to see as much bag space as possible it looks like this:

XXXX <-shared slots

~~~~
XXXX <- other bag space
XXXX
While this may sound trivial, from my perspective it is not. I spend so much of my game time sifting through loot pricing, selling, salvaging. I use the bottom row of the shared slots for salvage kits etc.
So my question is about the order of unlocks (or where the newest will appear).
1. Some have said with the maximum shared slots unlocked (24) the new one (25th) will appear above the rest like this:
X          <- 25th slot
XXXX
XXXX
~
XXXX
2. With less then the maximum number shared slots unlocked, newly added slots have always opened at the bottom like this:
XXXX
X          <- new slot
So which is it, or are both true?
24 Slots -> the 25th is added to the end
So you had 24 shared slots to begin with and have received your 25th from a pre-purchase? With the bank opened the shared slots to the left side look like this?
XXXX
~
XXXX
X          <- new (25th) slot with the level 80 boost
I don't know if this will help because it's not exactly the same situation but I have 22 shared inventory slots and my inventory separated by bag and 5 slots wide.
The 2 'odd' ones are at the bottom on the left, and remain at the bottom whether I have the shared slots above or below the rest of my inventory. As far as I remember each time I've added slots they have appeared under or to the right of the ones I've already got.
In your question it's actually irrelevant whether the new shared slot will apear at the beginning or at the end. What matters is that the new shared slot is part of the shared slot block - it does not form a separate line. So, when you add it to your already existing X slots, you will end up with a single block of X+1 slots (divided into multiple lines as usual by how wide your inventory window is)
So, instead of
[new slot]
[bunch of old slots]
or
[bunch of old slots]
[new slot]
as you seem to assume, you will end up with
[new slot][bunch of old slots]
or
[bunch of old slots][new slot]
or, in simplest terms, with
[bunch of old slots +1]
