How does Experience in WvW work? Specifically in regards to Boosters

Recommended Posts

Unless I am missing something, I know you can reach different ranks in WvW, and there are the Pips and Reward track right?  So then how do boosters work? If I have max participation it seem like every 5min I get 195 points and every 500 points (I think) I get another reward in the reward track, but no matter how many potions or boosters I drink that number doesn't change. So what is it actually affecting?

reading the booster description, you'll find things like:

~XP from kills, XP from all sources, XP from quests all affect the Experience (XP) bar at the bottom of your screen, when you "level up" your XP bar, you gain a rank. (when you gain ranks, you gain more points to spend on WvW masteries, and you may earn bonus pips, see below)

~reward track XP affects only the reward track, but this is a smaller boost.

no booster will boost pips for the colored chests. you can click on LEGEND to see exactly where the pips come from: for example: 1st-3rd place reward 5 (1st) to 3 (3rd) pips every 5 minutes (the timer at the top middle of your screen while on a WvW map IF you have at least tier 3 participation; the higher rank you earned, the more bonus pips you earn; bonus pips if you're publicly commanding 5 or 10 people in squad, bonus pip if you earned all 4 wood chests the week before.

The EXP increase reward track progress by 50%, it doesn't affect anything else. On the area above the mini map it will say 195 but if you have the exp booster active the actual amount given will be 292/293 and it will show that number at the end of each tick when it pops up.

Potions give a fixed 250 points that isn't affected by other modifiers.

Skirmish reward track - pips. You can't boost it with boosters. You get pips based on your rank, current score and some other modifiers.

Reward track. You can boost it with boosters that state: "+X% Reward Track Gain in PvP and WvW"

WvW Experience / Rank. You can boost it with boosters. They will state: "X% WvW experience bonus" or "+X% Experience in all game types." or similar.

Keep in mind when gaining WvW experience you gain rank. Higher ranks gain more pips.
