Returning player, questions...

Thinking about giving GW2 another go... I havent played for about 3.5 years.  

Been playing Crowfall for the last month, and while it is a fun game it gave me the itch to come back to Gw2 for WVW.  How is WvW in its current state?  I remember big rushes onto maps every Friday night to begin capping points etc.. with overnight crews and what not.

 

Thoughts?

Apologies, a followup question:  Has any purposes been added to WvW?  Or is it still just for bragging rights, etc?  Any reward at the end of the week (or whatever the timeframe is these days) ?

It does have legendary armor, along with that, get to rank 10k and you get a title.

 

Plenty of rewards through pips now(Though i dont know if you was present back then.).

Yeah I saw the rewards tracks, very cool.  Any reward for your server?  Or is all of that gone?  I think back at launch, how well your server did in WvW impacted the rest of your PVE world server in some small way with a buff to resource gain or something.  Maybe I am mistaken.

That part is gone. Got removed some time after they inroduced multiserver maps, as server identity became something obsolete in PvE.

I don't think there are official overnight crews anymore.

Friday night reset is still the biggest rush of the week and, last I played, was usually coordinated at the server level.  Outside of that, activity is way down for very many reasons.  There's a new map which people either love or hate, a new matchmaking system on the horizon and an entirely new reward structure which means you actually make gold playing WvW instead of lose it.  The upgrade system is also different--it progresses automatically as long as Yaks are running from camps successfully.

Condition damage is the roaming meta now and zergs maintain full uptime on all boons while instantly cleansing all condis.  Some of the new class specs are very annoying, but balance is as bad/good as it ever was.  The core of the game is still there and you'll probably still like it if you liked it before, but it's unlikely to hook you if it failed to do so last time.

It hooked me well enough. I do have over 2000 hours in the game since beta/launch.  

I feel condi bulds have been meta for years, since I last played (2017 ish?) .  Will I get my cheeks clapped if I dare went power in wvw?

i started in jan 2019, since then there was no major mechanics worked on. few things, including mount adding, yeah. feb20 nerfs to damage coefficient are still a problem. i got around 5000 hours by now despite all the issues that remain.

 

@cesmode.4257 power dps is meta since it is more reliable and not nullifyable by good cleanses of the other zerg.

 

condis are still overtuned, bc power dps in smaller scale is a big grind atm, and the way too simple application of conditions combined with anets unawareness makes them strong in a smaller scale or whenever u outnumber your enemy by at least 10 people + they got no scrappers.

Heh, condi isn't meta, that died with scrapper becoming cleanse gods. It also took hammers to the knees when scourge and torment got nerfed.

 

Everyone is running power these days. Why wouldn't you want to slap 9k trueshots on someone while they get mesmerized in your whirling blades. What? Damage nerf last year? lol what damage nerf!

You can run power if you want, but you must bring significant, low CD condi cleanse or you will routinely run into builds you have no chance of beating.  It took off in 2015 with the HoT release, so it should be familiar if you played in 2017.  I honestly didn't realize HoT was so long ago...

This is totally different if you're in a zerg, though.  Zergs are only power and boons with enough AoE condi cleanse to make condis irrelevant.
