Crafting; glorious and overwhelming!

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

I have been wracking my brain attempting to understand parts of the crafting system. It's amazing and in-depth and I think I'm in over my head. I tried to follow the Wiki but the information is pretty dry and doesn't explain some of the finer points. As in- what are the steps for Ascended gear? What are the "gifts" at the Mystic Forge? Are there do's and don't's for being new to the system? I tried to look up some step by step guides but everything I've found so far was for veteran players who've been playing the game.

I'm at 500 tailoring and Jewelcrafting on one character and 500 weapon and armoursmithing on another. I have 1 mastery point for Legendary Crafting in Masteries. I don't even know what it means. Where do I get the recipes? How do I manage my sigils and upgrades? Do I make the upgrades or are they purchased?

If there's a step by step newbie guide that I've overlooked, feel free to post that, too. Thanks in advance!

Not sure you use the Mystic Forge to craft Ascended Gear.

'Crafting' at the Mystic Forge is a bit different from regular Crafting.  Actually, it's a lot different.

You don't need forge for the ascended.

Ascended should be easy and doesn't require any guides at all. Buy recipe from your master craftsman or from TP and just do it.

The only confusing thing with ascended gear is the naming of it. The prefix based on the stats. For example berserker gear has a prefix "Zojja's". So if you want to make ascended heavy breastplate you go to your master armorsmith, buy Recipe: Ascended Heavy Coat and choose Recipe: Zojja's Breastplate. Use the recipe and voila, you now know how to make an ascended heavy breastplate confusingly named Zojja's breastplate.

Now for legendary crafting, you will need guides. Wiki is actually just fine.

I have taken 3 crafting disciplines from 0 to 500 in less than 5 hours. It's easy to max them out by doing discoveries with an item booster up.

The discipline master can sell you a lot of recipes for sigils and runes, depending on the discipline the vendor can teach you but other recipes can be bought from pact supply network agents (you need to unlock a mastery for it),  HoT faction vendors, various vendors across Tyria, recipe boxes from Metas etc...

Some sigils and runes can only be purchased from vendors without being craftable but you have a chance of looting them from yellow Sigil or Rune bags using a karmic converter or currency converter like the Ley Line one you get from HoT.

The legendary recipes are sold in Lion's Arch by the Legendary vendors. You need them only if you are crafting Legendaries and the other recipes for gifts can be purchased from the Mystic Forge vendor.

You can also buy recipes, including ascended ones, from the Trading Post and also from the Guild merchant in your Guild Hall but it requires Guild commendations you earn from Guild missions.
