What Do You Think Dragon Jade will entail

Recommended Posts

All we know about this ambiguous part of the game is that it's taken on the same ideas as Skiffs and Fishing.

Will they be items you unlock like the portal waystation?

New abilities?

New Areas within other parts of the world?

It's anyone's guess, but I'm curious to see what people are thinking on this one.

Do you mean the 2 unknown masteries?

Absolutely no idea.

I don't know what we even need at this point.

(pls don't say new races. I'm tired of this discussion.)

But it can't be story related as Anet doesn't seem to spoil anything about the story this time and showing it later would still be a spoiler.

I also don't see a reason to hide a second new mount.

Also don't think it's related to "factions" as in luxon vs kurzick, where we go Alliance VS horde style. That would be Wvw anyway.

I think the 2 masteries were not planned to come with EoD but with the delay, they have time to add them.

The two unnamed masteries might simply be tied to local species, like the Itzel Lore, Nuhoch Lore and Exalted Lore masteries in HoT.

Or maybe one of them is related to the new Strike Missions and their Challenge Modes, similar to the Raids masteries in HoT.

I doubt it's going to be a unique system like siege turtles or fishing because I think Anet would have either told us what it is or not mentioned it at all until they were ready to tell us about it.

The info on the EoD page says "The Jade Wind petrified everything it touched, devestating the southeastern coastal regions. A stone sea holds no food - but it's absorbed centuries of magic. Canthan innovators have long sought practical applications for the material now known as "dragonjade". achieving solutions undreamed of elsewhere in the world."

So it sounds like dragon jade is the same as the jade in GW1 (which was used as a crafting material and by NPCs for it's magical properties) but the Canthans have found more ways to use it. I noticed a while ago the boats don't seem to have sails or anything resembling a motor, but they do have a glowing green crystal near the rudder, so I'm guessing that's a power source and since it's green and from Cantha probably jade. There's also a scene in the trailer with lots of green glowing tubes and green magic flowing between them and I assume that's also supposed to be jade. (In real life not all jade is green and not all green minerals are jade, but in fiction the two usually go together.)

There might be a mastery related to it, but my guess is this is going to be more of a story theme. If it is the same jade as in GW1 I'm curious about why they're now calling it dragon jade. Cantha was called the Empire of the Dragon in GW1 so maybe it's simply a dramatic way to distinguish the magical jade from the normal mineral (which I assume also exists in Tyria, in order for them to recognise what the Jade Sea had been turned into) while also claiming possession over it.

But maybe it will turn out there actually is a connection to the dragons (or one dragon in particular) and then it could be a continuation (or culmination) of the on-going theme of people in Tyria trying to use dragon magic themselves and the problems that can cause.

That's interesting to think.

So maybe it'll be crafting and gathering related?

The consensus I got from it, is that it'll be a reason to explore all of Tyria, so maybe new nodes will show up throughout different maps. 🤔

I was looking for a thread like this.   Since it's a technology, I think it will be a new crafting path, that will be tied to Housing.

That last part is just dreaming. 🙂  As a poster above me said that the skiffs seem to be powered by something using Jade, I can see bigger boats in our future, boats we can live in.    Though I do not see a feature where the world is littered with humongous houseboats.

I dunno, I am keeping my hopes up that the last two masteries will be something real and good, and not something horrible like 70% of the IBS masteries are.   You know, a Mastery that you can only use in a small part of the world, and of which the effect is barely measurable, and completely negligible

My guess is it'll be the primary power source for Cantha and they won't be thrilled about the idea of killing off all the dragons and turning their power source into a finite thing. Also a mastery associated with it. What would be really cool is if the waypoints there are powered by it and have a different appearance.

If we have a mastery that is tied to dragon jade/new tech/new magic then what would the tiers offer?

- being able to travel using dragon jade tech (portals, transporters, the like) or perhaps augmenting existing mounts (like IBS invisible)

- being able to craft with dragon jade (augmenting existing crafting)

- being able to harness the power of dragon jade with new temporary or powered up skills (like the IBS orbs)

These seem like the most logical touch points for a new mastery given the little we know.

I also have the feeling that the last two masteries are going to offer something unexpected as a second wave of hype reveals. Perhaps another flying mount?  But I temper that thought by considering they didn’t reveal the last two mastery as they tie into the story directly and would be more spoiler if revealed early.

I think dragonjade is going to be masteries  that are functional in cantha. Like the leyline gliding in hot and the vig and valor in IBS. Things we will need to use to traverse and battle in cantha. Or it could be some whole new type of added gameplay maybe the masteries will give us another level of combat.

Seeing this Jade-ish technology in trailers (with a power plant of sorts?) I would imagine it's an energy source plain and simple, so this could directly tie into our skills or give us new ones. Double jumps, maybe? Walking on water? Oh that would be cool. Surfing on foot. Or maybe a skill that allows you to freeze time? See-through-walls jade sight(tm)? Build-a-Jade where you can make your own op companion?

I am making stuff up, but frankly, this will probably be expansion-specific stuff instead. HoT and PoF each had threir "universal" masteries that worked in all maps, gliders and mounts respectively. I assume EoD's univeral would be the skiffs (and fishing), and that's it. Rest would be focused on expanding EoD's maps' functionality. Though so far, they have surprised me, so maybe they will surprise me again.

I think the posters above me are probably right, in that the last two masteries are tied specifically to Cantha in some way. That is why I am not keeping my hopes up on anything interesting, having seen the IBS and other LW Masteries that are tied to a specific Map.

How lame would it be that we have to finish a Mastery line, just so we are able to use Waypoints in Cantha (that use Dragonjade tech).  That is like having to finish a Mastery so that you can loot the full content of a Chest in a certain map. Oh wait.

or having to finish off a mastery just to unlock the ability to loot certain drops from an event >.>
