Legendary Armoury issue: left-over ascended gear ... salvage / vendor / destroy?

Recommended Posts

I realize only a fraction of the community have the same "problem" that I do. Not going to complain about the Legendary Armoury, because it is very good (minor issues aside .. specifically swapping items when you do not have extra gear loadouts) and I am happy to have it. But I have 400+ ascended items on my account for which I have no use. Salvaging them all will be expensive (especially given the recent value of memories of battle --- ascended salvage tools via WvW Skirmish Vendor used to be the cheapest in the game, now they are not very cheap at all). And there is no way to send them to an alt account, where I could use some of them.

The suspicion of "henchmen" coming with EoD seems to have almost been disproven; we do not yet technically know what the other mastery tracks are, however (fishing, skiff, <presumed dragon jade>, +1). And so saving the ascended gear for henchman use seems to be folly.

The vendor value of ascended weapons is 1 gold, but the value of accessories, amulets, armour pieces, back items and rings is maximum 7 silver each.

Rings are probably worth salvaging, especially if they are attuned and/or infused. Accessories and amulet and backpieces may be worth salvaging, if you need the achievement for the legendary salvage items. Otherwise salvaging is probably too expensive.

And so I have 400+ inventory slots stopping me from using about 3 characters, for which the legendary armoury would otherwise have given me good reason to play.

Additionally, a few items cannot be salvaged (bugs?!):

  1. Jalis's Signet Ring (attuned)
  2. Pact Vigilance Signet
  3. Nadijeh's Dynastic Signet
  4. Saga's End Draconic Core
  5. First Spear's Icon
  6. Banner of the Dauntless Commander

And so what am I to do with all this no-longer-useful gear?

Discussion, suggestions, constructive commentary etc welcome.

Some items like the sagas end and banner of the dauntless. Are items that you can never ever create again. Those I would keep just because they are unique. Useful? Maybe not.

For those other ascended, i cant answer because i dont have the luxary you have.

Possibly salvage for balls of dark energy?

All you can do is salvage everything and hope for a few essence drops so you can make a profit. Some Ascended items will sell to vendors for the price of a kit, though, if you don't like RNG.

Technically you could just delete everything, since the Legendary Armory effectively puts Ascended-quality gear on every character, you could just trash all your items and still have the same amount of gear you had before, so whether you want to risk losing gold to roll the dice on a potential profit is up to you.

Ascended kits are 1g per charge so I find it a bit difficult to determine whether it's worth salvaging or not. Salvaging ascended armor in particular doesn't seem to give anything good. It seems better to vendor it for 1g if no valuable runes are inside. edit: this is wrong, it vendors for barely anything.

Yes I know you could get "free" kits from fractals, but I don't do those much anymore and have more or less exhausted the dozen or so charges I had left.

But ascended armour has a vendor value of only 2 silver 40 copper, not 1 gold. So it is even worse.

I guess what I am hoping for is an official statement that it is safe (or not) to salvage/vendor/destroy these items.

The worst case scenario is I do this, and it turns out in a few weeks there is a use for these things, and then I have to occupy Customer Support with a request to re-imburse, which would be disturbingly complex and time consuming.
