TheDistantFuture.6128
Hi all, I suspect this is a silly question, but I'm looking to get into the game. I have a handful of older characters that are low level. When I logged into them, I noticed that you get birthday rewards. My characters are like 8 years old, but I'm not a huge fan of the races of the characters. Am I missing out on much if I delete them and make new characters? Are the birthday rewards anything noteworthy? Thanks in advance for the help!
Linken.6345
Yes you do mate some of the dyes you can chose are expensive and you get weapon armor skins you cant get any other way limited to one charcter per year tho. So best would be to buy new character slots imo. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Birthday_Gift
Inculpatus cedo.9234
Create new character(s) and use the old characters for mules and/or park them in advantageous places. If you delete all your old characters, you will have to wait 9 years for the upcoming 9th Anniversary gift (and 8 years for the 8th, 7 years for the 7th, etc., not to mention each year's Birthday Gift). Welcome return.
mungozen.2379
The wiki can show you what you get each year. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Birthday_Gift Note the one time account rewards versus the per character rewards. i would suggest you keep at least one old character going to ensure you get the account birthday rewards. As the dye kits contain dyes that can be attained elsewhere and, year over year the cost of dyes has fallen on the trading post, it probably is okay to delete some of the characters you don’t care for. the other items you get per character birthday are negligible for the most part. Danikat.8537
Most of the interesting stuff in birthday gifts comes from the account gift, which you only get once (when your oldest character reaches their next birthday). The gifts which every character gets contain things you can get elsewhere. So one option is to keep 1 of your oldest characters so you'll continue to get the new stuff each year and delete the others. But I recommend waiting until you're certain of not just which ones you want to delete but what you want to replace them with. It would be a real shame to delete one, play around with different options and then end up choosing the same race and profession again - meaning you could have just used a total makeover kit and kept their birthdays and other progress. I understand why some people say to keep all your old characters, but I also know that would be impossible for me. Not just because I couldn't always afford to buy a new character slot and I don't want to spend my time logging into an ever-growing army of mules camped at farming spots, but because I like playing around with different character concepts and ways of doing things so if I'd kept all of them I'd have filled the 70 available slots in the first year and be unable to make characters I actually want to play long-term. I've kept 11 (including my oldest character) and must have deleted hundreds over the years but I've never felt like I was missing out on anything important. Sure I could get another 59 dye unlocks each year, but I could also buy the dyes off the TP if I wanted to.
Deedrick.4372
Don't forget about crafting and bag slots, or anything else character specific. Those upgrades/skills are not recoverable. IMO new slot best, but double check what you are loosing before deleting.
