Dirty Secret #1) Balance

 

Your opinion on this forum does not matter. There is a balance discord with at least 7 anet developers in it, including Grouch and CMC. Aside from the anet developers, it has some high level pvpers from both NA and EU, and some others that aren't actually very good at the game. How do you get into this discord? You need to get someone from the discord to invite you. The developers will get in voice chat and have discussions with the players there, and not with you all here. This would be fine if the players there have the best interest of pvp at mind. Some do, some don't. Generally the average players attempt to provide sincere feedback there.

 

Make no mistake though, there is no excuse for the slow pace of balance. The discord has been complaining about scourge for a while and the blame for that lies on anet alone. Just understand your feedback here is ignored. I you would be more likely to reach someone by mailing anet a physical letter than by posting feedback here.

 

Dirty Secret #2) Wintrading is allowed* 

* As long as you follow anet's internal guidelines

 

In short, the policy anet holds on win trading is: "If the players are acting on their own free will and are not account sharing, they will not police them." To clarify, there are instances of match manipulation that will absolutely get you banned. Account Sharing will get you banned. If you can prove that and report it, anet might act. On the reverse side, if a group of players queue together and one of them throws, anet does not care. They will not ban those players. This information is on good authority.

 

Player A + Player B duo and Player C syncs the queue and throws / dcs (NOT BANNABLE)

Player A + Player B (playing on Player C's account) (BANNABLE)

 

This is 100% the win trade meta in the last few years if you look closely. Players who can barely scrape top 25 get boosted to rank 1-3 by duo queueing with specific players. They sync with friends on alts. Those alts either throw, dc, or try hard depending on what teaem they end up. They do not account share, or at the very least make efforts to hide that because anet might act on that. They do this in the morning to avoid the mainstream pvp players.

 

Anet will not come out and say that this is their policy because it is clearly indefensible. Believe me though, players are doing this with anet's blessing. There are active win traders who boost their friends' ratings who are also active members of anet's balance discord. Personally I cannot understand the lack of integrity from the developers on this particular topic, but given anet's track record regarding balance in pvp, incompetent decisions should not come as a surprise.

It's kinda common knowledge if you've played the game for more than 5+ years, cared about spvp a time it was actually relevant, kept track of the game mode.  Stuff like this has been going on since S1.

From what ive heard that discord is not what most people think it is. Basically the devs just listen to players rant about how their main needs buffs, and if everyone complains about the same thing being op then it might get nerfed. Its not like they let the players make the balance patches.

No wonder SS rev hasnt had nerfs  hahah its super strong in high tier but they love it so they dont ask for nerfs.

They care about spvp if they didn't they wouldn't have spend 8 years listening to advice from the forums.

The underwater removal come from here.

The damage nerf came from here (wanting to go back to core)

The amulet sigil and rune removals again came from here (wanting to destroy bunkers and healer specs in pvp)

Every single mesmer nerf can be traced back to here too.

There are plenty more where that came from those are the most worst one that pretty much made me quit pvp each time the patches dropped.

 

Sure there maybe a discord now but history shows they read the forums.

I think it comes after the Gem Store tbh. At least it gets higher priority than WvW.

if you have listened to any teapots podcasts with cmc, he talks freely about his discord. He even invite ppl there, i think there was a link on those streams, and they might be on youtube as well

 

other ppl also said "i talked with cmc in his discord"

 

now get the most popular pvp streamers and watch their streams and classes they play

 

it's almost funny how the classes they main manage to dodge the nerf bullet 80% of the time, necro, rev, holo, thief under the "hard to master" excuse

 

about the wintrade, yes, ppl even exposed on video with obvious wintrade but no, no bans

Are you suggestion there is not a discord where community leaders are talking with devs to imporve the game at all?

Cuz it sure seems like such a thing does not exsists. Soly based off of the frequency of pvp updates and balance and the amount the meta has changed since feb 2020 which is zero nothing has changed since the most hated skill revisions of fed 2020.   So i dout theres a discord where the devs communicate and want to improve pvp i highly dout it.

As long as they keep their "enlightened" balance decisions strictly in pvp, they can continue their charade. At least most of the top players arent interested in playing the other two game modes.

It does not matter in the end right?  As long as the balance team is not an actual professional team with less staff than the fingers on your hand and with no power to release updates very quickly then it is all useless. This is why they have no vision and direction and instead borrow it from the "top" "famous" players.

btw OP,  what about the bots eh? is it allowed like wintrade? does it have a condition? cuz they are still around and see them in my dailies every now and then same ol names. how bout it eh friend?

I quietly assumed about the Discord and such. I'm indifferent on it but I would prefer that most (or even all) balance decisions come from the dev's intimate experience and time spent with the game. And then, I prefer that they communicate in an open forum like this for opinions. Even if there is a lot of hate and complaining, dev responses can actually teach new players to look at things from a different perspective. It would have more of an impact for the community overall compared to a rogue discord server. 

 

As for the duoQing and wintrading.. yeah, also quietly assumed that too. Like 6 of my matches last season @ 1650+ rating had someone afk and they were laughing about it in team chat xD I don't really expect anything to happen if it's something that takes time and resources to investigate and prove. I always try and face it down and overcome the artificially slanted odds. Doesn't work all the time but any stupid losses that can be negated because of this kind of afk are a W. They will get tired of cheating before I get tired of tryharding

Underwater was broken and inbalsnced and anet took the lazy route

It wasn't all the top players i debated the scrubs on these forums years ago i watched in real time who was complaining and why and fought against it every step of the way.

It's pretty easy you can just look up my post history and see the forums fights back when the forums were way more active and devs posted here.

 

DO NOT MAKE UP FALSE HISTORY it only going to destroy pvp further.

What false history? Take the damage nerfs, every top player was supportive of that patch and praised CMC endlessly
