Low effort suggestion for something I think would be widely appreciated

It seems there's a fair amount of clothing pieces NPCs wear that players can't access.  It would be nice if we could (and I guess I'm bringing this up in advance of EoD if this ideal could be baked in at release...).

And while some players would just like them added to cultural clothing sell lists, I guess I'd love to see Anet invest a little love in the ability around the game to do some regional content (metas, or even special little quests/events like the one for the do-rag) to get relatively mundane clothing that otherwise we can't get.  PLEASE don't just throw it in the gem store as a new outfit.

Not everything necessarily has to be available for $$.

To be clear, I'm talking about clothing assets that already exist in-game.  Not pulling art resources to invent anything new, just some dev

I know you dont want it to cost, but I have to say I never quite understood why Anet never opened up an entire new level of monetization in town clothes. They had it right in front of them, just needed a little push - everyone change to town clothes in towns automatically (and armor when going out of course). Basic stuff free but of course fancier clothes cost. And so, so many people would want fancier clothes since they cant wear their fancy armor in towns.

But no, instead they just went and basicly deleted them. It's weird.

You know, when they first did that, I thought that perhaps it was exactly because they intended to add substantially to the town clothes by adding in the other outfits and variations NPCs wear.  I've always been surprised they never did.  The tonics for town clothes sell well at the TP, so I always figured, even if it wasn't a full 800 gems for a single outfit, they'd release the other outfits eventually as a gemstone pack, birthday reward, or something like that and make what money there was to be had on them.

I'm still hopeful we'll eventually get the NPC's swim suits and towels...

My guess is that they do this so that players stand out by wearing clothing that NPCs aren't, but in a game where fashion has become the pinnacle of progress, that's sort of a moot point now. One technical benefit for dolling up NPCs is that maybe it's easier to make clothes for just one or two of the races as opposed to all five of them, but I agree there's been a persistent demand for that stuff to be made available to players too.

If patterns hold, they'd monetize the crap out of it, release them as outfits, or gate them behind something like strike missions or RNG (or both). So I'd be in support of making some of those old NPC clothing pieces available to players, I'm just a bit terrified of how they'd choose to implement it.

I'd like more of the NPC clothing to be available for player characters, either as outfits or armour skins.

I suspect part of the reason they don't do it is because it's often only designed for one race (like all the Elonian stuff, I doubt they made charr, norn and asuran versions of it) but I assume adapting it would be no more work than designing or adapting other outfits to fit all the different races.

If they can't do that I'd still like them to release it anyway. We've already got several armour skins which are only available to specific races (including new skins - IBS introduced a few which only charr can wear) and we've got outfits which change based on the race of the character (common clothing, wedding and chef are the ones I know of) so if they've got 5 to match up they could do that.

Even though I used town clothes back when they existed and that's still how I use outfits now I'd be annoyed if we were forced to wear them in towns, especially if I felt like it was being done to push sales. There's plenty of times when our characters have to fight in towns, including times when they're expecting to do it so they should have dressed for it and it would be annoying to be stuck with town clothes when that happens.

That's where I could see grouping them in a obtainable pack, if they wanted them as outfits.  Since it seems that the NPCs are pretty evenly divided, a pack of, say, five or ten outfits, with one or two for each race in the pack, might make sense.  Though I don't know if there'd be issues in the wardrobe section, having an outfit that only applies to one race.

There's no need to make it that complicated. Look at the Wedding Attire outfit; it's 1 outfit with 1 slot in the wardrobe but it looks entirely different on every race and gender.

What was weird was that they had it, but at the time they didn't have a way to easily switch clothes.

So nobody used them generally, except the hardcore rp'ers.

Now they have quick switching...but then dumped the clothes.  As you said, didn't just push them aside, literally dumped them.

Bizarre choices.
