Any other Engie mains feel weird about the other class forums..?

People complaining about their classes in the other class' forums always make me feel weird. It's like.. they don't have to deal with being booted from raid groups the second they join, or being harassed by everybody else in the group to switch characters. They don't have to do their best to perform mega-brain gymnastics to have a functional build - NOT OPTIMAL. Just. Functional. And there's certainly more than three options - we get two, at a push! AND - they don't need to play perfect keyboard piano across twenty different skills just to keep up with other class' auto-attacks.

If ever there was a representation of the Engineer class -- this is IT. Personified!

Don't get me wrong. I love this class, and I ain't ever going to switch away from it being my main. I adore the fact that it forces me to think and come up with actual engineering solutions to make things work. Are they elegant? Frell no. But by Jove, the car WILL be held together by the 2B pencil slotted into drilled-out hole in the chassis. Engineer is powerful in that we can do anything -- but we'll never get to, because. Someone else does it better. And easier.

It just.. I dunno', it just feels odd, reading through other forums about people complaining that their class is weak - but tell them to try out Engineer and they'll say no way they're doing it because it's the most pointless class and it doesn't fit in anywhere.

I tried to play a dungeon earlier, and I got booted from the group. Before we'd even started. The only comment I saw was, "lol eng gg", and then I was vote-kicked.

Despite all of that, though, this is like the most chill forum of all the class forums! Just people asking for advice on how to make the class work or how aspects of it work.

Engineer players tend to be competent, and have problem solving skills.  It's an anomaly among the class forums, which is why we're more chill and also less active.  The wide toolbox helps.  The irony is that, whenever I go to solo a dungeon or a fractal, the engineer is the class I do it on.  So those guys were idiots.

It's only the condi builds that are hard to play.  The power builds are a lot simpler, even if it is monotonous to go back to grenade kit every 5 seconds on scrapper.

I feel like I am reading a post that was made 8 years ago when dungeons were still relevant.

In the past couple of months since I returned to the game, I have not been booted once from a party/squad for playing engi. However, I admit it's true that the expectation is that if you're playing engi you're specced with holo, which is unfortunate--I do miss when condi core engi still offered competitive dmg in PvE.

I disagree that playing engi requires "perfect keyboard piano" play. From the perspective of someone who was pretty hardcore with power/condi core engi back when it was relevant, playing holo in PvE has noticeably lower skill floor and less micromanaging.

I've mained engi for 7 of the almost 9 years I've played GW2, and I would argue that engi is currently in a good spot regarding all game modes. As far as I am aware, we're meta in WvW and PvP, and while we may be off-meta in PvE there really isn't a significant gap in dmg in real settings. We still offer great dmg, great burst, excellent CC, and some of the most reliable vuln stacking in the game. Honestly, anyone not accepting a competently played engi in PvE (barring record runs) is just an idiot who probably has never even touched the class.

Not to disagree with everything else you said because I do agree, but Condi Engi never stopped delivering competitive DPS.

I am not SC benchmarker, but I was capable of pulling 31K DPS on the golem benchmark with Condi Engi, the build never became bad, it got replaced with Condi Holo for being more flexible and having basically almost exactly the same build.

That's fair. 31k is respectable. I think I was just trying to get at how there was a time when condi engi was the one of the best if not the best condi dps (making it desirable in high-level content like raids). This was immediately post-HoT irrc. I particularly enjoyed having my DoTs appreciated in raids 😄
