Warriors and staffs

I there something in the game, a spell, item, whatever, that allows any class, especially a warrior, to use a staff? Somehow I my warrior has achieved a mastery of 94 in staff.  I can't remember how or why I was able to achieve this since the warrior and both its specializations aren't allowed to use staffs.

I cant recall if this counts, but im pretty sure some picked up items count as other weapons.

Yes some weapon items count as staves. I'm pretty sure it's the case of tree branches.

Maybe you got the kills back when banners could be picked up, if those banners counted as Staffs.
