Kenjer.6409
Hi All! I am coming back to GW2 and am excited to play. I played a bit at launch but really didn't get much in it because i was more focused on WOW and then SWTOR. However, over the years i have kept it installed and have received quite a lot of login rewards as i made a point to log in often because i thought i would always come back and give it another go. However, all of these things are putting me in a position where i really don't know where i should start. I don't remember much about how to play or what i did before but i am coming in with what i think is likely a wealth of resources: - 6 characters that are 80. 4 of them are fully boosted and two of them were played to 30ish and then boosted - 2 additional level 80 boosts available - 2 lvl 60 and 2 levle 50 boosts along with a plethora of level 40, 30, 20 and about 20 or so tomes of knowldege - 70ish birthday boosters - 13 chests of exotic equipment - 12 chests of loyalty - bunches of stuff that i think might be important but not sure what they do - mystic coins, mysic forge stones, dragonite ore, bloodstone dust and bunches of other mats I really don't know where to begin, or even how to figure out what to play. Goals wise i do want to chase legendary weapon skins and armor so wondering if map completion (which i think i remember was required for legendaries) would be better on a boosted toon? Oh and neither expansion purchased, but more than willing to. Any advice appreciated! 🙂
mungozen.2379
Treat it like you are playing for the first time and start a new character. Trial and error will tell you what profession you want to play, leveling will teach you what you need to know about your profession and the game, and playing will tell you if you want to get the expac and such. At some point you will realize you know the game and have a focused goal (getting a legendary, or getting into PvP or WvW or AP hunting, whatever it may be). When you get there all those long rewards and accrued mats etc will come in handy. just don’t rush it. This game is massive, there are hundreds of hours of game play in many different game modes. 4
Harfang.1507
You do seem to have a nice stash set aside, but yea, set it aside for now. The level boosts are imho a waste of storage space, unless you are allergic to the levelling experience. I'd make sure to never leave any of my characters without an active birthday booster. The mystic coins should be hoarded at least until you decide whether legendary weapons are a priority. Otherwise, they are a great source of income on the trading post. Mystic Forge Stones are probably best used to make Mystic Salvage Kits to salvage those hiegh-level rares and exotics. Just talking about PvE, I'd be inclined to take one of my characters and play through My Story (i.e., up to Zhaitan's demise) if I had not already done so, and explore the whole of central Tyria. Try some fractals of the mist. Dip into WvW and/or sPvP if that could be your thing. At that stage, you will hopefully have a much better feel of what would be your main focus. Good luck and welcome back.
Danikat.8537
I agree with @Mungo Zen.9364. Keep the characters you've got but start a new one and play them from level 1 to get yourself used to the game, find out what type of content you like to do,what goals you might want to focus on etc. and then when you feel ready you can switch to your level 80 characters. Cuks.8241
On the otherhand if you dont feel like going through lvls, picking a char and getting it through story and/or map completion will be good comeback learning and usefull.
Goettel.4389
+1 level a new character, and don't rush it.
ASP.8093
Level a new character, nom on your incremental level-up scrolls (the ones that say they'll put you at level 20, 30, 40, or 50) or tomes of knowledge — that stuff practically grows on trees so you won't miss it later — when you feel like you've mastered the current thing the game is teaching you and want to move on to the next part of your story. Ragnarvor.2351
No need to make a new character, just play through all the story content and it will introduce you to so much. I'm in a similar situation I always come back to GW2. I just left WoW as well. I started doing Living story stuff and decided to make a few goals for myself (skyscale) and now I have an overwhelming amount of content to do and goals to accomplish. Kenjer.6409
thank you all 🙂 I forgot how awesome this community is!!! Any thoughts on how to chose a profession to try out from level 1 (seems to be the prevailing advice!!!)? moony.5780
U can try any character as lvl 80 in the PvP Area. Even lvl 2 characters r lvl 80 there. And u can hit and fight the golems and NPCs there. But also consider the elite specs, they change the way a proffesion is played. Core classes r sometimes really annoying and weak, but the new elite specializations make it really great (engi for example). If u buy the expansion, then u can also test the elite specs even without learning them first.
