The point is that you will be able to use GS/staff/any main hand weapon in your rotation without a drop in you're cdamage stat. It bring flexibility to the previously rigid scepter/X. But yeah, IMO Shadow Fiend is a safer option : okai dps, it grants LF that C.Reaper struggle to regen, and on the active skill you may have a chance to apply blind/chill if Chilling Darkness off CD. Why not use shadow fiend, which helps a lot with chilled? There are a lot of small reasons that put together give the answer. Bone fiend's auto attack fires two 100% projectile finishers. If positioned well within a combo field that does something (fire, ice, ethereal, poison) it can add extra dps. Other than that it's ranged. If target tends to move around melee minion will waste time repositioning and thus score a decrease in dps. Bone fiend will just keep firing unless target moves really far away. Also it's command skill inflicts immobilze for 2s x2 (so 4 total) which does fair chunk of breakbar damage. It also immobilizes minion itself, which again may be used for small micro management to keep it outta heat. Generally it allows for more stable dps and more player control. But given the boss does not murder any minion that dares approach in seconds and isn't too mobile, you're pretty safe picking shadow fiend for pretty solid dps without having to micro-manage to get optimal results.
