Welcome back!

If you've been away for a while feeling overwhelmed is understandable, but all you really need to do is familiarise yourself with the game again. One option is to run your revenant around some of the core game maps to remember how to play them, but my preference when I come back to a game is to make a new character and play them from level 1 for a bit so I get all the intros to how things work to remind me, then switch back to existing characters when I feel ready.

I would suggest that you go run around Orr till you start to feel more comfortable. Then check out some videos on whatever you feel you need to improve on.

I was wondering a little bit about what quests I ned to start doing. I hear there are elite specs or something, how do I unlock that? 🙂

I will be doing that with a friend, but he cannot play as much as me so I want to get my 80 going aswell. So wanted to find out what was smart to do, like storywise and that "elite spec" or what that is 😛

Ah, I see. In that case it's a bit harder to answer because the simple answer is "whatever you want". I don't know when you left (other than it must have been after HoT released for you to have a revenant) but nothing has been added to the game which you have to have in order to play, so you can go straight into whichever area/s of the game interest you most.

So whatever it is you imagined yourself doing when you decided to come back to GW2 and wanted to be able to do, that's what you can and should be doing now.

Specialisations (aka trait lines) are passive abilities which make your character better at certain things (like reducing the recharge on certain skills or giving them regeneration when they're low on health). Elite specs were introduced with Heart of Thorns and also give you access to new skills and a new weapon type. They're not supposed to be any stronger than core specs but they are popular with players and most recommended builds will use 1 (you can only have 1 active at a time and it will replace of your 3 core specs). If you're doing Hero Challenges it's better to focus on ones in expansion maps because they give 10 points whereas ones in core maps only give 1, and Path of Fire ones are usually easier than HoT ones. There are more than enough points to unlock both elite specs (my main character has both elites unlocked, 404 spare points and might be missing a few) so if you're having trouble with one you can skip it.

The story in this game is almost entirely optional, although some steps are required for some optional but nice to have bonuses, like an easy way to - for example you'll need to complete parts of the Season 4 storyline if you want to get a skyscale mount but unlocking the mount is a long process and it's not required for anything so there's no need to do that unless you want to.

If you want to do the whole story in order it goes:

Personal Story

Living World Season 1 recap video

Season 2

Heart of Thorns

Season 3

Path of Fire

Season 4

Season 5, aka Icebrood Saga

End of Dragons

??? (EoD is not the end of the story, but we don't know what's coming next)

But each expansion and each living world episode functions as a stand-alone release so you can do them in any order if you want to prioritse certain goals.

There are two elite specs for each class.  For Revenant, they are Herald and Renegade.  Herald is available with Heart of Thorns, you have to have Path of Fire for Renegade.  Since you have Revenant, you obviously have HoT.  All you have to do to unlock and use your elite spec is train it using Hero Points on the training tab of your hero panel.  It takes 250 Hero Points to fully unlock one of the elite specs, but don't worry, HoT Hero Challenges are worth 10 hero points versus the 1 point you get for the core Tyria hero challenges.

Once you have your elite spec trained up, you "equip" it in the 3rd slot (bottom slot) in your build on the build tab of the hero panel.  You can also select you elite spec legend - for Herald that would be Glint, and Kalla Scorchrazor for Renegade.
