Mt Maelstrom Garden not working

I only get about half of the harvest...I see carrots, cabbages, etc, but only get the fruits. My character starts and "pulls" the stuff with a bar filling up, then about half way through, she just sucks it up without a bar, and nothing appears in inventory. Anyone else having this problem? It is quite a wait to get into the secret garden, and is not worth it if it does not work.
